WAVE Pearl Pangan Appearances List!1/30/2021 Wave is a newer character, and the first official Filipino superhero! I remember the day I brought War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas home. I wanted to read it because my partner is Filipino and we try to support as much Asian culture in pop culture as we can. I read the issue before him, and made sure not to say anything about Wave when she popped up, but I knew he'd love it. When he was finally reading it, I'll never forget the moment he stopped and read the lines, "Wave. Pearl Pangan, from Cebu City in the Philippines". He cried out that there's a Filipino hero, finally! Then a moment later, he looked up at me, tears in his eyes. "She's from Cebu, where my family lives." No one can witness a moment like this and not understand the importance of representation in all forms of media. Without further ado, here are the full appearances of Wave, Pearl Pangan, the first Filipino Superhero!

SSG Live From Yancy Street Ep. 2B!1/29/2021
Discussing the new comic books from Jan. 26/27, 2021 that stood out for me, including DC's Future State Aquaman, anthology Batman stories making me cry, Marvel and their X-Men shenanigans, loving crazy big monster stories, similar-but-different "indie" premier issues, and more!
I'll be back MONDAY FEBRUARY 1st for another "mid-week" episode, talking about WandaVision Episode 4, the coming week's releases (Feb. 02/03 2021) with spotlights on representation in comics, and more! Stay Sweaty!
unfortunately, podcast notes for this episode are unavailable.
I'm trying something slightly different, this week, for my "pick list." Following my instincs about what I actually felt like talking about, I wrote EIGHT different discussions on comics from this week. Granted, two are stories from the same anthology issue, but still. They all deserved to be discussed, for some reason or another, so check them out, plus a final paragraph on some more general thoughts I had, post-reading this week:
Future State Aquaman #1 We Only Find Them When They're Dead #5 Excalibur #17--Kwannon and Betsy! Captain Marvel #25 Batman: Black and White #2 King/Gerads A story Batman: Black and White #2 Campbell B story The Eighth Immortal #1 Stake #1 Final Thoughts for the Week Don't forget to check out my podcast, Sensational She Geek Live from Yancy Street! The first two episodes are already up! Here's the link for Apple Podcasts, and here it is for the hosting site. Let me know what you think! Continue Reading for the whole blog post!
I've already got episode two recorded, check it out!
This time I'm talking about WandaVision theories, what worked and didn't with Wonder Woman 1984, and I cover my weekly comic spotlights on representation!
VERY brief Podcast Notes are available after the jump!
I'm challenging myself with writing about a much longer pull list this week--here are the stats, because I'm a nerd: covering 20 comics total;
7 are DC Comics, of which there are 2 Future State, 4 Black Label, and 1 standard release; 7 Marvel Comics, including 4 Reign of X, 2 King in Black tie-ins, and 1 standard release; and 5 Indie comics, which total as 1 from Source Point, 1 is from Scout comics, 2 from Boom!, and 2 from Image. STATS. In all seriousness, there is a TON to look forward to in this week's releases, and I'm only covering those that I know I'm reading personally. Always check in with your local comic shop to see what other releases you might be interested in! And never go to Amazon for collected editions, if you can help it. There's almost always a comic shop, small book store, or other local retailer to find it from instead. Since there's so much to cover, I have the links beyond the cut. Continue Reading for everything comics this week!
This is basically my weekly blog posts put in a podcast, so give it a listen if you want! Let me know what you think! or view it directly through this link!
For a very large comics release week, at least personally, this week didn't quite have as many stand-outs as I thought it would. The three that I did pick to write about after reading, though, had a lot to be said for. Interestingly, I chose to write about Superman, of the Future State titles, a character I rarely read and even more rarely enjoy. This alone shows you how good the issue was, so hit the links below to just to a specific review/discussion:
Batman/Catwoman #2 Future State: Superman Worlds of War #1 Black Cat #2 It's a short list, but they were each incredible reads that I'm happy to talk about! And if you prefer, just Continue Reading for the whole post!
Happy new comic book week! It's the third week of DC's Future State event, and I have THREE of those issues broken down in my pull list! I'm also back to doing my Spotlights on Representation this week, because there is SO MUCH good representation coming out of this week's releases! Let's just jump into it--click any of the links to head to a section:
Spotlights on Representation: Future State: The Next Batman Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman Abbott 1973 Black Cat

Back again for another good comics week! This week was a little smaller, but that means the ones I picked out had to be all-the-better. My four picks from this week's pull list are two Future State titles, where one was a surprise! The other two are indie titles, one final issue and one second issue!
Hit any of the links below to jump to a specific review: Future State: Kara Zor-El Superwoman #1 Future State: Justice League #1 Home Sick Pilots #2 Lonely Receiver #5 Or Continue Reading for all four!
Welcome to the second week of comics in 2021! Okay, I know I didn't do a pull list for the first week, but I did the pick list! It's here.
This week, due to the way comics are right now, I've split the pull list into four categories: Future State, King in Black, Indie, and Reign of X. There's only nine total comics that I'm talking about on this week's list, so it should be a short read! Since it's been a hot minute since I've done a pull list, I'm posting it with a little less content than it would normally have. With any luck, next week I'll be back to doing news and spotlights on representation! Continue Reading for this week's comics!
This week was a landmark week for comics for two reasons: first, it's the first week of 2021! And second, it's the first week of DC's Future State event, showing the DCU at various points of the future. The following picks include two Future State comics: The Next Batman and Wonder Woman, both new characters behind familiar names. It also includes Eternals #1 by Kieron Gillen and Esad Ribic, and X-Factor #6 by Leah Williams and David Baldeon.
Continue Reading to read why these four comics are my picks of the week! In working on my recent read list for Big Bada, one of the most clear things you notice is that her off-duty outfits change from issue to issue. I'm not sure how much the creators' wives or female coworkers had to say about what she should wear, but in any case, I found her style to be an interesting look at the IRL era she and Scott were being written in.
