We've entered the hottest part of the year, just in time for Convention season! But the heat isn't the only major complication this year. More in the news segment!
Continuing our Tarot Lessons, the Card of the Week 00:03:19 is Major Arcana #12: the Hanged Man. I found what I thought was some neat history, trailing down into the usual pop culture references and concluding with the modern take on the card. There's a bit of news for Comic Books 00:15:46, which contains spoilers for the recent Fallen Friend issue and the future of the character in question. The base of our MCU Fatigue discussions found in this episode starts here. The fairly extensive Recent Reads/Events 00:23:52 covers almost a month of comics catching up, including talk about both the current Marvel and DC comic events. For Marvel, I put together a somewhat brief summary of the Sins of Sinister event and how it leads into our current Before the Fall "precursor" event. Then for DC, I have a very basic rundown of the Knight Terrors event backstory, and a few of the stories that have happened so far. More for both next episode! Other comics discussed in slightly more-depth include Doctor Strange #5, Jon Kent's new series, the end of Hairball, the complicated feelings on Captain Marvel through Dark Tempest #1 (and her movie), and of course, more on Fallen Friend. Shows/Movies/Anime 00:51:50 begins with what we've been currently watching, starting with a longer discussion of Hijack (ApleTV+) and ending with one about My Adventures with Superman (MAX)! Both are very positive, just so ya know. Then News for this section 001:04:04, with some Anime Expo announcements, some Greta Gerwig mentions, and a good amount of discourse on the VARIOUS big strikes happening right now, and how that'll effect both con season and the immediate future of fandom. Adam mostly covers the real talk on the latest Secret Invasion episodes 01:13:34, covering the BIGGEST reveals, who's lived and died so far, general MCU observations, and a fair amount of theories. Last is Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 01:21:34, covering episodes 3-5 of season 2. All of them have been delightful, IMO, true to the spirit of Trek. On that note, we also ended up talking Doctor Who, and my "theory" on how the two shows are basically the same thing. The end! I'll be back as soon as I can manage, so stay hydrated, but metaphorically sweaty.

Jessica Cruz: The Picture Post6/27/2023 Happy June! I hope your month is off to a good start. It's the Spider-Verse episode!
Before we kick off the week's opening Tarot lesson 00:02:59, shoutout to the Citadel Oracle deck for being bonkers amazing in every way. Creator Fez Ikwright's site (10/10): https://rosdottir.com/ Our Card of the Week of the major arcana this week is #10: Wheel of Fortune! Using tarot-heritage.com's wonderful history and summary, the wheel of fortune is duly explored through historical context, imagery, and meanings. Pus the usual Anime Tarot archetype and Marvel Tarot TRIO (count them--3!) comic characters assigned to the card! Manga of the week 00:21:26 is The Angel Next-door Spoils Me Rotten, a manga I've been reading based off an original light novel series. The story's anime premiered on Crucnyroll in the past year, so check that out if you do subs! Manga News 00:24:41 includes potential ends for Chainsaw Man and the start of a....Doc Oc in a schoolgirl's body manga? Yerp. As for Comic Books 00:31:11, yes, I am behind again. BUT, I have a lot to say about Cantwell's Hellcat series, which I'm still loving, and the developments in Patsy Walker's life (and death?). I also cover Disney's Maleficent #1 (very, very good) and issue 5 of 6 of the Ambassadors! Then, a brief rundown of what's New Next Week (well, this week, June 7th) 00:39:11, including another issue of Ambassadors and if my calendar is correct, Maleficent #2! Three points of Comic Book News 00:43:27 cover Hickman/Schiti's G.O.D.S. at Marvel, Thompson's new Birds of Prey at DC, and the apparent impending Bat/Ca Gotham War, of which neither of us are particular fans. Fingers crossed it ends how we hope! Finally into TV/MOVIES 00:51:17, going over for starters the new things we've been watching and enjoying this week, including Demon Slayer, Mashle, and Oshi No Ko (we also watched the first episode of American Born Chinese after recording--10/10 fantastic, if you were still wondering). And very quickly, some anime announcements 00:53:25, with at least one new English dub on the way this week! And Then: SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE @ 00:55:51 and through to the end! We talk new characters, theories wild and sane, general reactions, and everything else we could think of! Definitely spoilers, definitely loved it. Adam shares his notes and I wing it whoops Best I know, I'll be back Sunday for the new episode. Any ideas what to do for #100? I hit 100 episodes a long time again, this one is jsut numbered so. American Born Chinese! Comics Comics Comics! Tarot's Justice Card! Next time. Have a good week. We're talking some light(er than last week) history, symbolism, meaning, and pop culture references! Our Manga of the Week 00:18:48 is none other than Demon Slayer! One of the most popular series' of this era, Adam has collected and read the entire manga, so he's pleased to share it with you with his thoughts! Followed by brief points of Manga News 00:26:09. For a full list of manga releases coming in this month of May, check out the Otaku Calendar site for May: https://otakucalendar.com/Calendar/2023/5 As it's the first pod of the new month, technically, I have quite some extensive comic book previews. The comic book segments start 00:28:17 with covering some Recent Reads, including the Powergirl Action Comics B-Story, end of the arc for Grim, Hairball, Harley Quinn, the Ambassadors, the final issue of Lovesick, and more Clea in Doctor Strange. PLEASE be sure to check out her podcast special I did for her last year if you want to know anything additional about her character--I'm the Resident Clea Pro! Nothing makes sense. But then there's still MAY comic series/one-shot kick-offs 00:55:19; JULY BIG-2 Highlights (from solicits); a preview for FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2023 (Sat. May 6th!) 01:02:48; and finally, New Comics Next Week (5/3/2023) 1:07:39. Which leaves us with the TV/MOVIES 01:09:47 segment. After some brief notes on the current spring 2023 anime and live-action shows, we're talking News and Announcements 1:11:44, which covers Grant Morrison's legendary Titans cameo, plus excitement about season 2 of Strange New Worlds! I'm currently making Adam rewatch the first with me. The only Trailer 01:16:36 to speak of this week was that additional Flash trailer, for which Adam and I have WIDLY different takes! He is a vast talent that will truly be missed. The tarot studies major arcana card of the week 12:12 is card #6: The lovers (which is gunny, cause co-host). I talk a LOT about the history of this one, which i hope you find just as interesting as I did! The deck of the month is Tarot Mucha from Lo Scarabeo. Our Manga of the Week is Kaiju No.8, in a discussion primarily led by Adam! Followed by Manga News 47:54. The Comics segment begins 52:24 with what is new this coming week (the last of April), and then has a LOT of catching up on recent comic book releases, including this final arc of Captain Marvel, the first issues of Hellcat, eternally more love for Purgatori, and so much more! TV and Movies segment 1:37:05 starts with some new and noteworthy titles including the so-far Spring Anime releases, Beef with Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, and a few others. Star Wars Celebration wrap-up 1:42:45 includes the teasers and trailers, the new "trilogy" announcement, and what we hope for the future! Nothing need to know, but life does get in the way at times and this was certainly one of those times. As always, and maybe in the spirit of the anime Shoujo Heroine, we will continue moving forward with time and continue to strive to do our best, whatever that may entail on a day-to-day basis.
One of the hard points recently was the news of the passing of celebrated geek, musician, actor and voice actor, Lance Reddick. The dust hasn't quite settled enough for the tribute I feel he is required, so I don't have it here on this episode. But he is due the respect of proper obituary on this podcast, so when we are ready, it will happen. In the meantime, if you have any stories of Lance, please feel free to share them wherever you can so I can add that to his tribute. Starting with Tarot 06:41, I remembered this week to give the note on Divinatory Tarot and the Like that I meant to go over last week, and the full article it came from can be found here: http://hearingshofar.blogspot.com/2010/03/aries-shofar-at-pesach.html Card of the Week for our tarot lessons continuation is #5: the Hierophant. I have the description, symbolism, meanings and interpretation, plus a bit of history and some fun pop culture references! Manga of the week 0:19:23 is, ironically, it turns out, Tokyo Demon Bride Story by TADAICHI NAKAMA! Ironic, because I also learned today that this is the last day of it's publication: the manga ends as of today, April 3rd. While it seems to have a fair amount of haters, I found it quite charming and entertaining. Tokyo Demon Bride story can be found on the Shonen Jump app. Manga News for the week 22:26 includes the MyAnimeList Ultimate List of Manga Recommendations (https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2023-03-31/myanimelist-releases-ultimate-list-of-manga-recommendations/.196585 ) as well as a number of other starts and finales. Comic Book News 25:50 is a touch heavy this week, starting with the frankly ludicrous twitter debate of Comics vs Manga, and going into the sad truth of our female creators in comics, and how their legacies are sabotaged by the publishers who hired them. The discussion came from the following tweet: https://twitter.com/ComicBookHerald/status/1636013058890903553?s=20 . We also gave some time and thought to the legacy of Carol Danvers, and how the cancellation of her series at issue 50 is NOT a good decision for anyone involved, even so much as to relate to the previous point about female Big Two creators. Plus I have some King/Sampere Wonder Woman thoughts, which I don't think anyone will have an answer for until her landmark 800th issue. I talk a bit about the kick-off's from 3/22 0:37:49 plus some of what was new this past week, 3/29. As always, this is only a tiny fraction of all comic releases each week, so be sure to contact your local comic purveyor for the full details on what you may be interested in! Comics are, as always, for everyone. We get into the TV/MOVIES segement 0:41:31 ith what's New and Noteworthy lately, including Yellowjackets season 2, Wellmania, Unstable (wow, bit of trend here, eh?), School Spirits, and more. We're back to having a PROPER News/Announcements segment this week, starting with the RUMORS: 48:13, then MCU: 51:59 including the leaving of Victoria Alonso and Ike Perlmutter, Secret Invasion info and theories, the necessary mentioning of changes that may come to Loki season 2's cast, Liv Tyler's Betty Ross, and the casting of Wonder Man's brother, Grim Reaper. Then DCU: 1:03:16 talking Batman 2's villain, a certain unfortunate project, and of course, the Blue Beetle trailer! Big ups and downs in the pop culture news this week, for sure. Anime News 1:06:58 has me talking Spring 2023 Lineup English Dubs (no dates! why no dates, Crunchyroll?) as well as new Anime and show announcements, including the Netflix Scott Pilgrim project, Konosuba, Re:Zero, Spy x Family, Girlfriend Girlfriend, and more! Finally, I get caught up with where we're at with the Mandalorian season 3, talking chapters 20 and 21: the Foundling and the Pirate, respectively. From space pterodactyls to HOLY SHIT I forgot to finish talking about episode 21...ummmmm oops. I'll see if I remembe to talk about the Armorer + Bo Katan next week! heh. oops. And that's it! happy to have you here. Please rate/like my episodes so they get seen by more listeners, and thank you as always for your support. Next week we'll talk card #6, the Lovers, plus a new Manga of the week, more shows and movies and Mando, more anime, and tons of fun, I hope. Podcast notes for referenced links, more information, and those otherwise wanting to follow along: This week's Tarot Studies 0:05:36 includes our new card of the week, #3 of the Major Arcana, The Empress! While I don't have so much history on this card per-se, I have some interesting insights that, oddly enough, tie into some more psychology, if just a bit. Plus some interesting and feminine connection to last week's High Priestess card! Next week is #4, the Emperor! The Manga segment 0:19:59 begins with our new Manga of the Week: Daily Report About my Witch Senpai, by Maka Mochida! We take these two sweet little slice-of-life volumes as a cooling off period after going hard last two week with Boys Over Flowers and the Wallflower. Followed by a good but of Manga News 0:22:52, which is a bit I'm still working on perfecting! Should I just report the ones I'm familiar with, or is continuing to look for more new and interesting things a good way to expand all our manga/anime knowledge?? ( I feel like I just answered my own question) For Comic Books 0:30:03, we begin with what was NEW this week, arriving in shops March 8th! There's plentiful kick-off's to new series', both indie and "big-two." There are two bits of Comic Book News 0:37:30, one very positive, and one less so. Also, a short discussion of What Happened to Donny Cates? Please note I jest in good humor, please don't send me internet hate over a straight white man, lol. Then the past week's Recent Reads and Events 0:42:12 includes more Lazarus Planet after-shocks, including that awful (awfully cheese-ball) Batman v Robin ending, two Stephanie Phillips kick-offs, and a Stephanie Phillips finale (her Harley Quinn run), plus more! For whatever reason, I've been wanting to go back and finish Mark Millar and Stuart Immonen's Empress (2016; 7-issues), so I decided to make it a feature on this episode 0:54:35. Only when I was doing this write-up did I realize that it was perfect timing, alongside this week's tarot study of the Empress card. Ha! anyway. I give a little summary, but my full summary is on the linked podcast notes. Which brings us to the TV/Movies segment 01:00:34, starting as usual with what was New (to me, at least) and Noteworthy over the past week or so, plus some exciting announcements that includes the screen adaptation of The Good Asian, the 2022 Eisner Award Winner for best Limited Series! And for damn good reason. There's a bit of Anime news 1:06:05, then finally... Mandalorian season 3 episode 2, Chapter 18: The Mines of Mandalore. Folks, it's spoiler city here, and probably isn't a good segment for your kids to overhear, cause this bitch got EXCITED. If you thought I got too sweaty last week, it's in a whole new universe on this one, babyyyyyy! But, I mean, if you watched it, you get it, right? Right?! Come back next week for the 81st episode! The Emperor in Tarot, more MANDO, a new Manga of the Week, exciting new comic reads, and always so much more! Keep it sweaty, folks, It's better that way. Episode 90 still coming tomorrow, the 9th!
Starting off the week with Tarot Studies 0:04:14, and this week's Card of the Week, #2: the High Priestess. Interestingly, the history of the High Priestess is quite different than that of the Magician last week, in that there are a number of real world conspiracies tied into the card's origin. Plus the three character connection from the Marvel Tarot (2007--and in need of an update, tbh), as well as the High Priestess' character archetype from the Anime Tarot! As this is the first episode of March, I also have a new Tarot Deck of the Month 0:24:17, which for March is the Pagan Cats Tarot, aka Tarot of Pagan Cats! Delightful, artistic, and so creative! The Manga segment 0:26:50 has our very in-depth Manga of the Week: The Wallflower (aka Perfect Girl Evolution)! Also having run as a delightful and popular 25-episode anime, the Wallflower was one of my first manga I read as a teen, and like last week's Boys Over Flowers, will always hold a special place in my heart. Check out the connecting Podcast Notes to see how much I DIDN'T include in the podcast, but is still all there in my write-up! Endless information; I wasn't lying when I said I love this one! That leads into a decent list of New and Continuing Manga for this new month of March 0:40:50, which again, has a much more in-depth version on the written notes linked above. Once again, the Comic Books segment 0:44:09 starts with what's new and interesting in March, from a variety of publishers, as well as releases I'm just generally looking forward to. After that is the New Comics This Week list--which I feel like I have to casually remind you is only a small portion of all weekly comic releases! Check out your local comic shop or online retailer for a full list of what releases for comics each week. The Recent Comic Reads & Events 0:50:49 segment includes the wrap-up of DC Comics' Lazarus Planet event, which officially ended with Lazarus Planet Omega, but will have further impact down the road, and I'll be keeping up with those aftershocks, as well! Other reads I talk about include, honestly, a handful of things I was underwhelmed by, but I promise that will change with the next podcast episode's comics section, as there is always more to look forward to! The final segment is TV/MOVIES 01:00:45! Starting off with some New and Noteworthy releases and watches, including Outer Banks and Make My Day. We have an amount of very interesting "announcements lite," 01:01:52 such as Steven Yeun's Thunderbolts villain role, the new Pretty-Boy-Hellboy, Something is Killing the Children's going to Netflix, and more, plus some minor rumors. There were two somewhat noteworthy trailers 01:07:04 put out last week, including Peter Pan and Wendy, and the Haunted Mansion, both of which get a mention. Anime News and Updates 01:08:53 is mostly my current watch-list and things that I'm enjoying this season. The main event is the shows! Beginning with a little bit on the surprising (to me) Mayfair Withes Finale 01:09:30 before getting into the excitement of Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 1 01:11:35, titled Chapter 17: the Apostate. We get into easter eggs, references, the trilogy of trilogies (I'm talking about prequels, originals, and sequels), plus Book of Boba, and the Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows, because it's all involved here! We're getting peak Star Wars, and yes I know how that sounds! Reign it in, Anna. I just really love Star Wars. And this is getting sweatyyyyy. Aaaand then I Finally watched Quantumania 01:22:26, and I can't say I disagree with many of the naysayers. It was....not great. MCU Fatigue central, anyone? And BOY, Bill Murray does not sit well with me anymore, jeez. The whole thing was just a little.....it was a lot. Yeah. But not all bad! I had things I liked, to be fair, so that's all discussed. Come back later this week for episode 90! Including the 18th Chapter of the Mandalorian, a new Manga of the week and tarot card lesson, comics news, and more! PLUS: a special look at Mark Millar and Stuart Immonen's EMPRESS (2016)! All that and more! Keep it sweaty, folks. Who is Marvel's Satana? How has she evolved over the years? Why do I blame Chris Claremont for her bastardization? These answers and so much more, coming your way!
This podcast proudly contains far more information on Satana than any single one of her wiki or fan pages, so I'm pleased and excited to share it with the world. On that note: some CW for sexual assault, violence against women, topics of heaven and hell, extreme personal loss, murder, attempted fratricide, sacrifice, satanic panic, classic horror tropes, general violence and lewdness, etc. The special starts with a little necessary Background, including Horrosploitation, Dr. Fredric Wertham's 1954 Seduction of the Innocent, and the implementation of the Comics Code Authority. We then continue the timeline into the eventual relaxation of the code in 1971, and the ensuing horror trends of the 1960's-80's. With that context in mind, we can begin talking Satana, starting with her (admittedly few) Key Comics: 0:16:44 Her various Aliases and names she's been called through the years, plus when it happened: 0:19:45 The Hellstrom Extended Family, which spread across multiple species and still holds a fair amount of mystery: 0:20:47 Satana's complete Teams and Teammates: 0:27:17 Her Allies, specifically those who are not teammates: 0:31:12 Love Interests, of course, which is surprisingly minor: 32:27 And then her Enemies, I'm sure fewer than you might expect: 0:33:21 Satana's Outfits/Physical Appearance, which has vastly changed through the years, and my breakdown of those changes: 0:37:34 Her half-demon Succubus Powers: 0:40:50 Alternate Reality/Format Versions of Satana: 0:42:38 And finally, her whole life and comic History: 0:45:22, including but not limited to the following categories: Early life; Turn for the Better, Turn for the Worst; the Basilisk; Death for Doctor Strange; Resurrection; Occultist for Hire, Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers; Between Time; All-New, All-Different Hell (and more Vegas, Baby!); and finally, her most recent appearances in Captain Marvel. I wrap up this special with a finale I worked to put all of what I've learned and discovered into account, which I'm calling, simply, Satana's Duality: 1:08:20. It is my desire that listeners who get this far might be inspired to also care about the character of Satana, and we can see more of her in the comics, properly, again. "It’s no different than your regular baby or wedding registry where people can create a wish list and share it with their friends and family. " Good afternoon! This week we are an Egyptian History podcast, at least for a moment!
This week's NEWS 0:08:04 starts with a few minor points before breaking into the rest, starting with release updates for Across the Spider-Verse 0:10:22 parts 1 and 2. There are also some release changes on the horizon for the Batgirl movie 0:13:21. It's become time to finally address the Disney vs Florida situation 0:18:05, and let me be clear, I am NOT in agreement with the government of Florida in any way. Then we have, on a lighter note, a rumored Elsa Bloodstone casting 0:27:26 for Werewolf y Night, Love and Thunder Casting Rumors 0:30:21 regarding Angela, Thor's half-sister with a complicated comic boo history, and the alleged Illuminati Lineup for Multiverse of Madness 0:41:11, in theaters next week! While only a few, this week's comic PICKS 0:56:16 are mostly all bangers. The adjoining PULLS 1:03:14 for this week have a TON to look forward to! While discussing MOON KNIGHT ep.4 1:10:44, we temporarily transition the podcast to being an Egyptian History podcast, because I can't help myself, and they got a LOT wrong in that episode, to be honest. But there's always the fun comic references and theories, too! Then it's YOUNG JUSTICE s4 1:31:19 episode 19, where we are starting to see the light at the end of the complex tunnel. Marvel COMICS July Solicits 1:36:08 are quite long this month, and DC Comics JULY Solicitations 1:49:22 are a bit shorter, but full of some great material to look forward to. And that's that! Definitely be sure to check out the Yancy Street Specials, as the May Special will be all about Patsy Walker! And keep an eye out later this week for a SURPRISE special, regarding Madelyne Pryor, the Goblin Queen! Stay hydrated, keep it sweaty, see you next week!

Afterwards, I talk about Zack Snyder's Justice League, which had its "first" trailer yesterday, which in turn made it even more relevant to talk about the ongoing scandals surrounding writer/director Joss Whedon, who took over the original Justice League project after Snyder stepped away. Plus, in preemption to Batman/Catwoman #3 (of 12) tomorrow, I walk through Tom King's love story for the two DC characters, explaining the history as he's laid it out, how it relates to what's happening in the current series, and breaking down my thoughts and theories on the series so far. Finally, a note of explanation on the term "sweaty" and it's originator, Jon Schnepp, and some brief discussion on what I'm looking forward to in new comics this week. There's always a lot to talk about in this industry, so hour-long episodes might become the new norm...
