We've entered the hottest part of the year, just in time for Convention season! But the heat isn't the only major complication this year. More in the news segment!
Continuing our Tarot Lessons, the Card of the Week 00:03:19 is Major Arcana #12: the Hanged Man. I found what I thought was some neat history, trailing down into the usual pop culture references and concluding with the modern take on the card. There's a bit of news for Comic Books 00:15:46, which contains spoilers for the recent Fallen Friend issue and the future of the character in question. The base of our MCU Fatigue discussions found in this episode starts here. The fairly extensive Recent Reads/Events 00:23:52 covers almost a month of comics catching up, including talk about both the current Marvel and DC comic events. For Marvel, I put together a somewhat brief summary of the Sins of Sinister event and how it leads into our current Before the Fall "precursor" event. Then for DC, I have a very basic rundown of the Knight Terrors event backstory, and a few of the stories that have happened so far. More for both next episode! Other comics discussed in slightly more-depth include Doctor Strange #5, Jon Kent's new series, the end of Hairball, the complicated feelings on Captain Marvel through Dark Tempest #1 (and her movie), and of course, more on Fallen Friend. Shows/Movies/Anime 00:51:50 begins with what we've been currently watching, starting with a longer discussion of Hijack (ApleTV+) and ending with one about My Adventures with Superman (MAX)! Both are very positive, just so ya know. Then News for this section 001:04:04, with some Anime Expo announcements, some Greta Gerwig mentions, and a good amount of discourse on the VARIOUS big strikes happening right now, and how that'll effect both con season and the immediate future of fandom. Adam mostly covers the real talk on the latest Secret Invasion episodes 01:13:34, covering the BIGGEST reveals, who's lived and died so far, general MCU observations, and a fair amount of theories. Last is Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 01:21:34, covering episodes 3-5 of season 2. All of them have been delightful, IMO, true to the spirit of Trek. On that note, we also ended up talking Doctor Who, and my "theory" on how the two shows are basically the same thing. The end! I'll be back as soon as I can manage, so stay hydrated, but metaphorically sweaty.

Welcome to the May Yancy Street Special, Justice for Madelyne Pryor, the Goblin Queen! Maddie has a tumultuous comic history, one that takes a degree of research to fully understand, so I've done the work for you! Here you'll find everything you ever wanted to know about Madelyne Pryor, tip to toe, from Claremont-era X-Men to Vita Ayala's current New Mutants arc. There's good reason Maddie has become a bit of a fan favorite, and I hope after this, you'll agree!
Please note the content warning at the beginning of the episode for biological engineering, brainwashing, emotional and physical torture, abandonment, murder and suicide, psychological damage and extreme trauma, removal of personhood, infanticide, cheating and betrayal, etc. Key Comics 0:07:42, covering all the noteworthy issues marking integral moments in her history. Aliases 0:10:51, every name Madelyne is called through her comic history, and from which issues. Team and Roles 0:13:18, going over Maddie's involvement as a Pilot/Mechanic, X-Men, Berserker, and more! Alternate Versions 0:22:01, briefly summarizing 5 different realities' versions of Maddie, plus one extra 616-version. Outfit Redesigns 0:27:32, focusing on two canon redesigns and 2 unofficial fan designs by professional artists. I also forgot to note a few things about Maddie's Goblin Queen outfit in this section, namely that anyone who's worn a "similar" top will understand it actually sits rather snug and comfortably. Additionally, the costume originated when Madelyne first became her "evil" version of herself, when her goal was the mental torture of her ex-husband, Scott. Her sultry look goes along with that intention just as much as the seduction of his younger brother, Alex. Relationships 0:32:01, talking Madelyne's interactions and time with Kate (Kitty) Pryde, Jean Grey, Scott and Alex Summers, the other X-Men, Mister Sinister, and others. Full Character Chronology 0:46:10, going over her entire comic book history, with insights, explanations, and everything else you can think of! The Modern History 1:05:39, covering anything that's happened to Maddie since Inferno (1989). Her TRUE Origin1:08:12, explaining the creators' original intention behind Madelyne, and how her story became so twisted away from those intentions by the end. My personal head-canon of who she is and how to handle her 1:12:24, because it shouldn't be so hard to get a satisfying plot surrounding her out! And finally, the current New Mutants Arc 1:15:05, starting with the recent release of issue #25, and discussing what might be coming in subsequent issues, based on what information we have. I hope you feel this special has done Madelyne Pryor justice, for what little I can offer. We an only hope those with the power to make positive change and deserved recognition in her story, do so, and do so well. Next Podcast Upload: Episode 66, Monday June 6th! Ooooh, 666 >:) And speaking of 666, don't miss the upcoming JUNE Yancy Street Special, all about Patsy Walker, aka Hellcat! One of the oldest characters at Marvel Comics, period. I took last week off for "Fall Break," but we're back today with a seriously oversized podcast episode! Stick around, cause there's a lot to catch!
We start is off with the news as usual (0:14:13), covering a number of smaller No Way Home updates before getting into one very big and very exciting Spider-Man franchise update (0:18:27)! After the news of Matt Reeves' The Batman runtime, we go on to briefly discuss the Super Crooks Netflix Anime from Millar-World (0:24:52), and finish off the news with talk on the cancellation of Luke Cage: City of Fire, and why that is such a poor decision for Marvel to apparently have made ( 0:27:05). We have two big comic book segments today, the first being the weekly Pick list for comics that came out last week, on the 23rd and 24th. At the top of the list sits John Ridley's Black Panther #1, Jed McKay's Death of Doctor Strange #3, and the final issue of Hickman/Huddleston's Decorum. Admittedly, I also spend some time complaining about the new X-Men run, t the end (0:44:31). For the pull list for this week's comics (0:49:30), I'm looking forward to a number of #1's, one-shots, anniversary issues, and final issues, among others. It's a big week for comics, for sure! The massive, all-inclusive Hawkeye discussion (1:07:52) certainly has more information than you need to know, with episode 2 kicking in at 1:28:04. I've also compiled a list of all the points (I have 8 groupings) the show has taken from the 2012 Matt Fraction/David Aja Hawkeye comic book series, for which neither creator has been given any credit for (1:38:29). In my opinion, designers of stories that re turned into other major media ought to be paid the way any costume or set designers would be. After Hawkeye is my thoughts on the Netflix live action Cowboy Bebop show (1:43:25), which are mostly positive! I haven't finished it, but I'm enjoying it so far. Finally, to mark the holiday that passed us by last week, I put together a discussion of 1989-1990's She-Hulk: Ceremony (1:46:56). It covers a lot of topics relevant to our modern world, many of which I go into depth on in my written discussion, which can be found on my website blog, linked below. I cover the general plot of the story, the legendary feud between Ceremony writer Brian McDuffie and Sensational She-Hulk writer John Byrne (1:50:37), and finally, the one, the only, Wyatt Wingfoot! 1:58:38 Wingfoot is a character with old, strong ties between himself and Johnny Storm and the Fantastic Four, Jen Walters, Black Panther, and other major marvel heroes. He's chief of his Keewazi tribe from Oklahoma, a proven warrior, empath, and thinker, and is one of my best guesses at characters soon to be introduced to the MCU! You can check out this discussion for his character history, relevant ties, where he was inspired from, and anything else you could possibly want to know about Wyatt Wingfoot! I'll be back with the next podcast episode Friday the 3rd (or September the 4th) covering the Wednesday episode of Hawkeye, comic book picks for the week, and any other news, which I'm sure there will be plenty of! Stay warm and dry, keep it sweaty, and try not to cast judgement.
