Hey there, listeners! Another week, another weekly episode! This one covers so much, so stick around!
Our NEWS segment (0:08:24) starts with a few shorter bits of updates (Don't miss the Illyana podcast or the Batman on HBO Max!), before digging deep into Multiverse of Madness speculation (0:12:26) based off of a comic book wrap gift, Trans Representation in DC media (0:18:18), the Future of DC Entertainment (0:24:50), highs and lows of the Wonder Twins casting (0:28:18), Constantine by JJ Abrams Updates and Rumors (0:32:21), the official White Knight Red Hood Announcement (0:37:37), and of course, a full breakdown of the Thor: Love and Thunder Teaser (0:43:15)! The weekly comic book PICKS (1:02:02) feature the penultimate Batman/Catwoman issue, Immortal Red Sonja #1 (fantastic!), and a few other fun things. This week's comic book PULLS (1:11:21) come with a short preface on open-mindedness, which I hope is understood. The discussion of MOON KNIGHT episode 3 (1:20:30) goes through the events of the show, the comic book references and Easter eggs, and theories about where we're going next. And, of course, an explanation on who that third persona likely is! We end with YOUNG JUSTICE Season 4 episode 18 (1:32:07) where things are getting Zoddy, and Doctor Who: Legend of the Sea Devils Spring Special (1:35:25), where I talk the history of the Sea Devils in Who, as well as the real life history of Madame Ching: Pirate Queen! I'll be back with a new weekly episode next Monday (or Tuesday) talking comic books, news, speculation, Moon Knight, Young Justice, and DC and Marvel July comic book solicitations! Till then, stay sweaty, and enjoy your week. Welcome to 37A! We have a LOT of news this week, some comic book one-shots and series beginnings as well as endings, and the latest episode of Doom Patrol! NEWS @ 0:11:06, starting with three MCU project rumors, all coming from the same source, so take that how you will, but I talk all the comic relevancy and the biggest theories, as well as my own! ETERNALS final trailers & featurette @ 0:25:50, going over the 10 characters as we’ll see them in the movie and my own theories! SAGA is returning! @ 0:32:10, January can't come fast enough! Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special Rumors @ 0:36:37, what's your guess? Adam Warlock Casting (GOTG v.3) @ 0:40:00 with my thoughts as well as the general reaction from Twitter. Jon Kent Comes Out! @ 0:43:21 I'd like to direct you to episode 29B to hear a fantastic short essay by Nerdist writer Eric Diaz on Tim Drake's own coming out, which was so fantastically eloquent that I feel like it's still relevant enough to link again, now. You can find the article here, too. House of the Dragon trailer @ 0:47:42, which I've been putting off for reasons I think we all understand. NCBD Pull List 0:51:55, featuring the Eternals prelude to the movie, a new Batman Black Label mini, Grant Morrison's last work for DC comics, the Strange Adventures finale, and more! Doom Patrol S.3 Ep.5 1:06:17, talking DaDa Patrol! Admittedly briefly. Bwah-buh-buh-Bwaaahhh (air horn noises) It's another extra-sized podcast episode on this lucky Friday the 13th!
This week had SO much to talk about, I didn't want to leave anything out! We start the episode as usual with the comic book pick list, discussing titles like Mamo, Daredevil, Captain Marvel, and Fantastic Four: Life Story! After the pick list is a special segment on Free Comic Book Day 2021, which takes pace this Saturday, August 14th at your local comic book stores! Pop in during their event hours for a selection of FREE comics, which I highlight my personal upcoming favorites from here! After comics chat is the shows! We have three shows to discuss this week, starting with the premier of What If...? on Disney+. The premier episode was "What if...Peggy Carter was the first Avenger?" And boy, did it ROCK! I discuss all the relevant information about the episode relating to comic history, of course! After What If...? is Titans, season 3! The first 3 episodes were dropped on HBO Max yesterday, and they. were. epic! From a Death in the Family to the Killing Joke to every Easter egg I could find, it's a long, excitable discussion of this first releases from Titans season 3! Finally, I briefly discuss Taika Waititi's Reservation Dogs, another amazing show that premiered recently, which I cannot recommend enough to fans of Waititi's humor and storytelling style. Available to binge the first two episodes on Hulu! Once we get past the TV talk, onto the news! This week's news includes the casts of Netflix's Wednesday, which will follow Wednesday Addams and her parents, as well as Netflix's live-action Avatar remake. While I'm hesitant about the latter for obvious reasons, the showrunners of this new Avatar seem to have a solid grasp of where they're going with the show and it's characters. The last bit of news I wanted to share today involved Tim Drake officially becoming a member of the LGBTQ+ community at DC comics. I found a truly stellar article from Nerdist writer Eric Diaz on why this is an important development, both historically and in modern comics history. You can find the article here, or listen to me read it for you during this episode, because Diaz hit exactly the points I had in mind-- and so eloquently. Major Kudos. The episode wraps up with a brief statement on how Disney's Jungle Cruise is so much like a remake of The Mummy (1999). Trust me, I'll walk you through this one! It'll be fun, I promise. I'll be back this coming Monday, August 16th for another "A" episode, following the new comic book pulls for the week, the finale of Star Wars: the Bad Batch (which premiers tonight on Disney+), and any other industry news or speculation that breaks between now and then! Have a great weekend, stay hydrated, don't be a Karen, and do be sweaty! |
