I'm particularly excited about this episode, because I'm taking my first real steps into the new segments I have planned, so please give any feedback you have!
Tarot Lessons this week 0:08:52 starts our deep dive into the 22 cards of the traditional Major Arcana, starting with this episode's #0, the Fool. I go through descriptions from official reference sources as well as meanings gathered in my own study notes, as well as other depiction and variation of the Fool, a tiny bit of history of the card, and of course, the Natasha Yglesias Anime Tarot archetypes, still an excellent and fun teaching tool! And to add some spice, I also go into some light pop culture references to the Fool card that can be found, too! Our Manga segment 0:29:42 focuses mostly on our new Manga of the Week: Witch Watch, by Kenta Shinohara! J'adore! And I hope you enjoy it, too. I have a little Manga News 0:38:57 that I'm still working on finding my footing for the weekly episodes, so bear with me as I settle on a design I like, and let me know what you want more of. The Comic Books segment 0:44:26 features what's new in shops this week, with a few golden keys to be sure to grab. Previous weeks' Recent Reads and Event catch-up 0:53:47 features summary of Dark Web: Finale, Bloodline: Daughter of Blade #1; Lazarus Planet: Legends Reborn, DC's Harley Quinn's Romances, DC Power: A Celebration, Purgatori Must Die! #2, and All Against All #1 & 2, which might be my favorite from the bunch. In TV/Movies 01:11:38, we talk New and Noteworthy (including the illustrious Cunk on Earth and the surprising Shrinking); in Announcements 01:15:46 there's the now-usual DCU nonsense, and the brand new announcement of Amazon's live-action Spider-Man Noir show project! For Anime 01:21:26, there's a bit of news on Demon Slayer season 3 before my own show updates, as I continue to search for a new hidden gem to take me by storm. As for Current Shows 01:25:54, I only have a few things to say on the Bad Batch season 2 so far, but that *REDACTED* was WILD and I want MORE Star Wars like THAT! That's all folks! Have a happy Valentine's/Lupercalia, however you choose to do so, and be sure to check back next week for a new episode covering Tarot's car #1, The Magician, a new Manga of the Week, more comic books, more news and theories, and a ton of fun for you and me both! Get sweaty unabashedly this week, friends. Madelyne Pryor: the Image Post6/3/2022 Welcome to the May Yancy Street Special, Justice for Madelyne Pryor, the Goblin Queen! Maddie has a tumultuous comic history, one that takes a degree of research to fully understand, so I've done the work for you! Here you'll find everything you ever wanted to know about Madelyne Pryor, tip to toe, from Claremont-era X-Men to Vita Ayala's current New Mutants arc. There's good reason Maddie has become a bit of a fan favorite, and I hope after this, you'll agree!
Please note the content warning at the beginning of the episode for biological engineering, brainwashing, emotional and physical torture, abandonment, murder and suicide, psychological damage and extreme trauma, removal of personhood, infanticide, cheating and betrayal, etc. Key Comics 0:07:42, covering all the noteworthy issues marking integral moments in her history. Aliases 0:10:51, every name Madelyne is called through her comic history, and from which issues. Team and Roles 0:13:18, going over Maddie's involvement as a Pilot/Mechanic, X-Men, Berserker, and more! Alternate Versions 0:22:01, briefly summarizing 5 different realities' versions of Maddie, plus one extra 616-version. Outfit Redesigns 0:27:32, focusing on two canon redesigns and 2 unofficial fan designs by professional artists. I also forgot to note a few things about Maddie's Goblin Queen outfit in this section, namely that anyone who's worn a "similar" top will understand it actually sits rather snug and comfortably. Additionally, the costume originated when Madelyne first became her "evil" version of herself, when her goal was the mental torture of her ex-husband, Scott. Her sultry look goes along with that intention just as much as the seduction of his younger brother, Alex. Relationships 0:32:01, talking Madelyne's interactions and time with Kate (Kitty) Pryde, Jean Grey, Scott and Alex Summers, the other X-Men, Mister Sinister, and others. Full Character Chronology 0:46:10, going over her entire comic book history, with insights, explanations, and everything else you can think of! The Modern History 1:05:39, covering anything that's happened to Maddie since Inferno (1989). Her TRUE Origin1:08:12, explaining the creators' original intention behind Madelyne, and how her story became so twisted away from those intentions by the end. My personal head-canon of who she is and how to handle her 1:12:24, because it shouldn't be so hard to get a satisfying plot surrounding her out! And finally, the current New Mutants Arc 1:15:05, starting with the recent release of issue #25, and discussing what might be coming in subsequent issues, based on what information we have. I hope you feel this special has done Madelyne Pryor justice, for what little I can offer. We an only hope those with the power to make positive change and deserved recognition in her story, do so, and do so well. Next Podcast Upload: Episode 66, Monday June 6th! Ooooh, 666 >:) And speaking of 666, don't miss the upcoming JUNE Yancy Street Special, all about Patsy Walker, aka Hellcat! One of the oldest characters at Marvel Comics, period. While one was an unusually short week of comic pulls for me personally, and the other was surely worthy, the whole world was a bit taken by the happenings of American politics, for the past few weeks or so. Instead, to distract from the wishy-washy news cycle, I worked on my Madelyne Pryor complete appearance reading order! Since her appearances are much fewer in numbers than that of Illyana Rasputin's Magik, who I did something similar on before, I was able to actually read all the issues on the list. This ended up with me adding brief summaries of the relevant events of each issue, to give context for anyone looking to learn more about the Goblin Queen. I've edited the notes I took while reading as much as possible, but please forgive any discrepancies or errors I might have missed. My over-eager enthusiasm for Madelyne Pryor is matched by my desire to get more people to fall in love with her character, too. Additionally, while most issues summarize just Maddie's role, a few include more in-depth explanation of the whole issue's events. Continue Reading for the reading order and history of Madelyne Pryor! It's a rainy Monday around here, I hope your week is off to a solid start!
Today's episode begins as usual with News, broken up into four sections: Trailers 0:10:40, Movie/TV Updates 0:17:40, General Industry News 0:27:50, and Rumors 0:45:31. Trailers include the first look at Naomi, and a few new clips of Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman movie, brought to you by a trailer from Warner Japan. Movie and TV updates features bits on The Marvels, the Gotham PD Reeves spinoff show, Shang-Chi, and Netflix's Cowboy Bebop. General Industry News covers the newly announced Wonder Woman video game, and what we know of Marvel in March, specifically Captain Carter, Destiny of X, and most importantly, Immortal X-Men. And finally, rumors goes over the potential The Losers Amazon show, everything you wanted to know about Phyla Vell possibly coming to the MCU, and more on that Shuri (Wakanda Forever) situation. I only had a handful of comic book picks to talk about this week 0:53:13, which were Dark Knights of Steel #2, Inferno #3, Hellions #18 (the series finale and the return of Madelyne Pryor, Goblin Queen!), Devil's Reign #1, and Daisy #1 from Dark Horse, which tbh I forgot to go back to and discuss, but was fantastic. I run through this week's pull list 1:09:30 pretty quick so I can get to the Hawkeye episode four discussion! 1:17:21 As usual, I cover all the easter eggs, hidden details, character references, comic origin material, and every bit of speculation I felt worthy of my time, including one or two theories that I'm personally banking on pretty hard. The next episode is gonna be a big'un, as it'll cover not only this Wednesday's Hawkeye Episode 5, but my spoiler review of Spider-Man: No Way Home! hat's as well as the regular picks and pulls from new comic book day, and relevant industry news, too. Marvel and DC March 2022 solicitations coming soon! My first special edition episode will be coming around the end of the year, featuring my personal Best in Comics 2021 list! So much goodness to come, so be sure to check back weekly, and never feel ashamed to get sweaty over your hobbies!
