Ok, this is getting embarrassing. There's only so many weeks I can get away with having a mostly-Marvel pull list before it starts to look like I'm a massive Marvel stan (a term I hate and immediately regret using). Don't get me wrong, I obviously really like Marvel, but my Marvel-heavy pull lists are more of a comment on the current state of the comics industry than my personal taste. Go to any twitter page/message board/Reddit sub, you'll see a surprising amount of comic book fans reporting confusing and lazy editing, writing, and events at DC Comics in the past year or so. I'm sad to say it's a pattern I noticed as well, and the reason I only have a handful of DC books on my subscription list at all. And, of those, they're almost entirely Black Label books--the publishing house under DC where they put all their out-of-canon hero stories and non-cape comics. For these reasons, I've been working on adding more independent publisher content to by subscription list. There's a lot of new indie books starting in 2020, so now is the perfect tie to spread my comic-reading wings. And, if you've been keeping up, none of this is news. These are trends I've been writing about for months now, and it's only getting more obvious. Publishing giant disappointments aside, there's always amazing comics still coming out. INCLUDING some great DC books ;). Continue reading to see what I have this week!

I don't want to put the wagon before the horse, but this year has started off pretty good for me. I feel like I've gotten ahead of my life enough after the holidays finally to relax a little on the weekends and enjoy my hobbies. Which is a good thing, because comics are getting going full steam ahead! This week brings me thirteen new books, so a pretty solid start to the year. Continue reading to learn more about what's good and exciting this week in comics! New Comic Books December 11th, 201912/8/2019
Nothing is slowing down here but the year. This week I'm talking about THIRTEEN different comics that come out Wednesday. I know I talk about having challenged myself at the beginning of the year to read more, and more variety of, comic books, but what has that really resulted in? My reading lists each week are much longer on average, and I've started this site to host my comic book babbling. As the year winds down, I think this winter I'll work on compiling a list of titles that have stuck with me, beginning to end, this year. Not only will that be a great annual wrap-up, and include my personalized recommendations for comics from 2019, but it will really show what kind of variety I've leaned into and what I read of each publisher. It'll be a small cross-section of this part pf my life, so to say. That'll be coming in a few weeks this December, but for now, Continue Reading for more comics babble this week! For what feels like the first time in a while, I have a nice, rounded feeling pull list this week. Its 4-and-3 Marvel and DC, plus a chic indie pick. A new series for each of the big two, as well. And that's not even mentioning the final issue of Johnathon Hickman's Powers of X series, which went alongside House of X that finished off beautifully last week. First and last issues makes for an exciting week in comics! Once again, I'll have additional suggestions at the bottom. For now, continue reading for the full weekly report! They're a pair as classic to comic fans as peanut butter and jelly. Harley Quinn, the former clown-princess of crime turned "chaotic neutral" force for sometimes-good, and her bestie Ivy, former botanist turned literal plant lady. They've been close friends, confidants, and occasionally something more across decades of history and multiple media formats. But they've just had one of the biggest changes ever in their relationship: death! In Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy #1, writer Jody Houser explores the new, still-changing dynamic between the Sisters of Evil! OK, team name is in the works. Continue reading for the scoop and my ensuing thoughts on this new series! It's another stellar week for comics! I have six titles this time that I'll be picking up, from four different publishers! Finally. It's been pretty much just Marvel/DC these past few weeks as far as what I'm currently reading, which can cause a little "cape burnout". Don't get me wrong, I love all the series' that I'm reading and have no issues with the types of comics Marvel and DC publish. It's just that sometimes I need a little break from books that are all in the same interconnected worlds. There's a fair amount of restriction a creator is forced into when working within an expansive connecting universe like those do. At "Indie" publishers, I feel like creators have a little more room to be truly inventive and original (ex; Saga is a comic that could NEVER exist at either of the Big Two, and we are ever more blessed for it). I love all comics equally, but in my opinion, the more variety, the better! Continue reading for a closer look at what I recommend reading this week! |
