Big Greetings on this Big Monday Episode! I took last week off for "Fall Break," but we're back today with a seriously oversized podcast episode! Stick around, cause there's a lot to catch!
We start is off with the news as usual (0:14:13), covering a number of smaller No Way Home updates before getting into one very big and very exciting Spider-Man franchise update (0:18:27)! After the news of Matt Reeves' The Batman runtime, we go on to briefly discuss the Super Crooks Netflix Anime from Millar-World (0:24:52), and finish off the news with talk on the cancellation of Luke Cage: City of Fire, and why that is such a poor decision for Marvel to apparently have made ( 0:27:05). We have two big comic book segments today, the first being the weekly Pick list for comics that came out last week, on the 23rd and 24th. At the top of the list sits John Ridley's Black Panther #1, Jed McKay's Death of Doctor Strange #3, and the final issue of Hickman/Huddleston's Decorum. Admittedly, I also spend some time complaining about the new X-Men run, t the end (0:44:31). For the pull list for this week's comics (0:49:30), I'm looking forward to a number of #1's, one-shots, anniversary issues, and final issues, among others. It's a big week for comics, for sure! The massive, all-inclusive Hawkeye discussion (1:07:52) certainly has more information than you need to know, with episode 2 kicking in at 1:28:04. I've also compiled a list of all the points (I have 8 groupings) the show has taken from the 2012 Matt Fraction/David Aja Hawkeye comic book series, for which neither creator has been given any credit for (1:38:29). In my opinion, designers of stories that re turned into other major media ought to be paid the way any costume or set designers would be. After Hawkeye is my thoughts on the Netflix live action Cowboy Bebop show (1:43:25), which are mostly positive! I haven't finished it, but I'm enjoying it so far. Finally, to mark the holiday that passed us by last week, I put together a discussion of 1989-1990's She-Hulk: Ceremony (1:46:56). It covers a lot of topics relevant to our modern world, many of which I go into depth on in my written discussion, which can be found on my website blog, linked below. I cover the general plot of the story, the legendary feud between Ceremony writer Brian McDuffie and Sensational She-Hulk writer John Byrne (1:50:37), and finally, the one, the only, Wyatt Wingfoot! 1:58:38 Wingfoot is a character with old, strong ties between himself and Johnny Storm and the Fantastic Four, Jen Walters, Black Panther, and other major marvel heroes. He's chief of his Keewazi tribe from Oklahoma, a proven warrior, empath, and thinker, and is one of my best guesses at characters soon to be introduced to the MCU! You can check out this discussion for his character history, relevant ties, where he was inspired from, and anything else you could possibly want to know about Wyatt Wingfoot! I'll be back with the next podcast episode Friday the 3rd (or September the 4th) covering the Wednesday episode of Hawkeye, comic book picks for the week, and any other news, which I'm sure there will be plenty of! Stay warm and dry, keep it sweaty, and try not to cast judgement. Good day to you listeners! It's the super-sized Eternals movie review podcast! But first, we have to go over the weekly comic book pull list real quick (at 0:08:44), then onto the good stuff!
The Eternals discussion begins at 0:27:22 with that opening titles crawl, explaining the six singularities, the dawn of creation, and then Arishem and the Celestials both in the comics and as they are set up in the movie. Ego, the Living Planet, and his connections to the Celestials are brought into the discussion at 0:35:00, before starting the basic plot overview at 0:38:01. This section includes the most basic of plot explanations, tied up with all kinds of comics history, Easter eggs, MCU translations, some theories, and more, all the way to the ending. With the plot covered, it's on to the major and minor changes made from the comics to the MCU at 0:52:03, including retro and modern Eternals history. Then I have an in-depth look at each of the MCU versions of these Characters at 0:55:43, covering all ten Eternals and Dane Whitman, and comparing them to their comic counterparts. Finally, noteworthy moments in the movie are at 01:07:10, followed by my favorite bits of humor at 1:14:03. After a brief discussion of the movie's sometimes surprising music at 1:18:51, the episode wraps up with what to expect next for the MCU, spinning out of the events of this movie at 01:21:13. Whew, I think that was it! Let me know what you thought of the movie and give me some feedback on what worked or not in my discussion! I'll be back next for episode 41B on Friday (or Saturday) November 12/13, discussing the week's comic book pick list, possibly all that DCTV I'm behind on, more than likely more thoughts on Eternals, and anything relevant that hits the news! Have a great week, stay sweaty, and do good. It's a big'un!
We kick off by discussing Creator rights and payment when a project is picked up for film or TV from the "Big 2" before getting into... The News @ 0:13:17, starting off with an overview of what premiering media (TV and Movies) we'll be discussing this month on the podcast, totaling seven different projects across the MCU, DCEU, Star Wars, and other geeky pop-culture topics; before going into.... Ms Marvel @ 0:17:03 discussing drama and curiosity over an initial promo poster and a leaked behind-the-scenes pic; Spiderman: No Way Home @ 0:22:32, we have not only official images, but a plethora of leaked behind-the-scenes pics, and a rumor about Ned Leeds--where I cover his comic history, too; Batgirl @ 0:33:13, with the news Brendan Fraser has reportedly been cast as Firefly. Discussion includes character comic history and various theories; Ant-Man and the Wasp @ 0:38:04 talking the somewhat hilarious Quantumania title leak, what it could indicate, and news and theories on a surprise guest star/cameo; Book of Boba Fett @ 0:41:12, doing a total trailer breakdown, celebrating the lead actors, and being generally excited; Val-Zod HBOMax @ 0:57:34 covering the news of the new writers on this Michael B. Jordan project, as well as the comic history of the character himself; Then a reminder @ 1:03:16 of the Morbius Trailer coming out tomorrow (and why I'm...hesitant...), which I'll cover on the next episode alongside the comic history of Morbius, and what extremely theoretical connections Leto's version could have with the MCU/D+ shows. Then we get into Last Week In Comics @ 1:5:15 for comics out Oct. 27th, mostly talking about Hickman's Inferno #2; This week's New Comic Pull List @ 1:18:17, with a bunch of #1's and a spoiler recap of Batman: Reptilian's wild events; and finally, Young Justice season 4 @ 1:29:20, recapping episodes 1-4, which encompasses the first arc of this season. The next episodes surround Artemis and Cheshire! I'll be back for a "B" episode this Friday, the fifth of November, talking the weekly comics pick list, Doom Patrol on HBO Max, the Morbius trailer breakdown, and anything relevant in the news!
