So about this late upload.....oops? Episode 90 still coming tomorrow, the 9th!
Starting off the week with Tarot Studies 0:04:14, and this week's Card of the Week, #2: the High Priestess. Interestingly, the history of the High Priestess is quite different than that of the Magician last week, in that there are a number of real world conspiracies tied into the card's origin. Plus the three character connection from the Marvel Tarot (2007--and in need of an update, tbh), as well as the High Priestess' character archetype from the Anime Tarot! As this is the first episode of March, I also have a new Tarot Deck of the Month 0:24:17, which for March is the Pagan Cats Tarot, aka Tarot of Pagan Cats! Delightful, artistic, and so creative! The Manga segment 0:26:50 has our very in-depth Manga of the Week: The Wallflower (aka Perfect Girl Evolution)! Also having run as a delightful and popular 25-episode anime, the Wallflower was one of my first manga I read as a teen, and like last week's Boys Over Flowers, will always hold a special place in my heart. Check out the connecting Podcast Notes to see how much I DIDN'T include in the podcast, but is still all there in my write-up! Endless information; I wasn't lying when I said I love this one! That leads into a decent list of New and Continuing Manga for this new month of March 0:40:50, which again, has a much more in-depth version on the written notes linked above. Once again, the Comic Books segment 0:44:09 starts with what's new and interesting in March, from a variety of publishers, as well as releases I'm just generally looking forward to. After that is the New Comics This Week list--which I feel like I have to casually remind you is only a small portion of all weekly comic releases! Check out your local comic shop or online retailer for a full list of what releases for comics each week. The Recent Comic Reads & Events 0:50:49 segment includes the wrap-up of DC Comics' Lazarus Planet event, which officially ended with Lazarus Planet Omega, but will have further impact down the road, and I'll be keeping up with those aftershocks, as well! Other reads I talk about include, honestly, a handful of things I was underwhelmed by, but I promise that will change with the next podcast episode's comics section, as there is always more to look forward to! The final segment is TV/MOVIES 01:00:45! Starting off with some New and Noteworthy releases and watches, including Outer Banks and Make My Day. We have an amount of very interesting "announcements lite," 01:01:52 such as Steven Yeun's Thunderbolts villain role, the new Pretty-Boy-Hellboy, Something is Killing the Children's going to Netflix, and more, plus some minor rumors. There were two somewhat noteworthy trailers 01:07:04 put out last week, including Peter Pan and Wendy, and the Haunted Mansion, both of which get a mention. Anime News and Updates 01:08:53 is mostly my current watch-list and things that I'm enjoying this season. The main event is the shows! Beginning with a little bit on the surprising (to me) Mayfair Withes Finale 01:09:30 before getting into the excitement of Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 1 01:11:35, titled Chapter 17: the Apostate. We get into easter eggs, references, the trilogy of trilogies (I'm talking about prequels, originals, and sequels), plus Book of Boba, and the Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows, because it's all involved here! We're getting peak Star Wars, and yes I know how that sounds! Reign it in, Anna. I just really love Star Wars. And this is getting sweatyyyyy. Aaaand then I Finally watched Quantumania 01:22:26, and I can't say I disagree with many of the naysayers. It was....not great. MCU Fatigue central, anyone? And BOY, Bill Murray does not sit well with me anymore, jeez. The whole thing was just a little.....it was a lot. Yeah. But not all bad! I had things I liked, to be fair, so that's all discussed. Come back later this week for episode 90! Including the 18th Chapter of the Mandalorian, a new Manga of the week and tarot card lesson, comics news, and more! PLUS: a special look at Mark Millar and Stuart Immonen's EMPRESS (2016)! All that and more! Keep it sweaty, folks. Blessed Imbolc, friends! It felt appropriate, so I begin this week's episode with “The Way It Is,” by William Stafford, which was recently shared with me by a friend. I hope you enjoy it, too!
The episode proper begins with News, including the obituary for Lisa Loring, the original Wednesday Addams from the 1960's TV show. She led a unique life, and I hope her children and grandchildren find comfort in the successful legacy her portrayal of Wednesday left behind. Next in News is some chat about Disney's Dreamlight Valley game, specifically the latest updates that were announced 0:15:37. I've been ridiculously hooked on this game, and am excited to see what content they put out this year! Also announced this week was the "Final Season" of Attack on Titan 0:21:24, which might feel like deja vu, and for good reason! all explained here. Of course, I am going over the newly announced DCU Slate 0:24:35, too. How could I not? I have a good deal of insight on a number of these projects, and would LOVE to hear what others think of the announcements and limited details that were provided! Chat away in the discord, linked below! This week continues part two of our Tarot Studies 0:52:14, moving along this week with a fairly general History of Tarot, which covers a number of historical identities and moments in the cultural relevance of the decks. The Major Arcana is introduced 1:05:54, and then so is the Deck of the Month for February 1:10:08 : Modern Witch Tarot Deck by Lisa Sterle (with an introduction by Vita Ayala). If you recognize those names, it's because they're both pretty heavily involved in the comic boo world, too! I love it when hobbies/interests collide. In our Manga segment 1:14:22, this week's Manga of the Week is My Dress Up Darling by Shinichi Fukuda! I have a deep love of both the manga and anime; this was chosen because volume 7 of the English edition is arriving in stores the day I am posting this episode, and as of me writing this summary, I already finished reading it! Sad face, but also -- it was so goooood! We've officially passed where the anime has run to so far. There is even a little Manga News 01:20:59 at the end of the segment, with one or two updates and a little gushing over Witch Watch, my current ShonenJump app obsession! For the Comic Books segment 01:22:41, I go over what is new and interesting (IMO) this week, as well as what to look forward to in comic releases over the rest of the month! In the previous week's Picks/Reads as well as catch-up reading coverage 01:27:30, I go over a brief explanation of Marvel's Sins of Sinister mini-event, update the latest for Lazarus Planet at DC, and have a few other fun ones to share! Finally, the Shows & Movies segment 01:35:34 kicks off for 2023 with what has been New and Noteworthy since the last 2022 episode, and the list is quite varied! I have limited coverage of Trailers that have premiered since 2022 as well 01:42:25, because frankly it is a LOT, and we can talk more about those projects as they get closer to premiering. My new ANIME section 01:44:53 h as a lot to cover, including what I've been watching in my spare time, what I've currently got on my simulcast (sort of) watch list, even including things I'm still on the fence for. And last, I speak just a minute or two on Teen Titans season 4 01:49:21, and how part 1 ended. And that's the week! Next week will feature a lot of the same, but updated, including our first Tarot Card Lesson proper, covering the first card in the Major Arcana, the Fool. More comics, more sweatiness, and more celebration of life, coming next week! in the meantime, check out my (very much in-progress) reading summary for Big Barda, co-star of the coming Valentine's Day romance podcast special!
