As we get further into the year, I find myself getting distracted from my weekly comics pull lists posts. Part of it is difficult due to your normal reasons--it seems harder to get things done when it is cold and dreary out, but I doubt anyone here needs an explanation of what seasonal depression is. But in this case, it's also because I've recently decided on a life change that will take months to put into place and use up a lot of my free time. With that in mind, I apologize if my weekly posts become even more sparse. Unfortunately this blog will get pushed to the back of the line of things to do as my life gets busier and more stressful in the coming months. BUT, with that being said, this change is a good thing and has been a long time coming, so the stress is equaled by the excitement. Onto more relevant stuff--Toy Con was this week, so I'm hoping to do a post on all the glorious things announced there. In the meantime, I have about 17 comics to prelude this week, so let's get started!

Post-Valentine's day, and it feels like my pull list is my gift from each publisher for the holiday. I can't say enough how many exceptional comics are coming out just this week; it's incredible. How I am going to find the time to read all of them, now that is a different kind of miracle. Too bad my three-day weekend doesn't fall next week!
I'm also happy to say there's a little more variety in my pull list each week. That isn't to say it isn't still overwhelmingly Marvel tilted, but I have 4 comic books from both indie publishers and DC, which is more representation than they've had in weeks. And speaking of Representation, it's Black History Month in February, and Vampirella writer Christopher Priest is using his comic as a platform for promoting diversity. This month, many of the Vampirella covers spotlight artists of color, presenting their variation on a dark-skinned Vampirella. It's a neat way to bring the topic up in a comic that doesn't deal too much in topics like race, and to show support for his fellow creators of color. If Vampirella isn't your thing, there's still tons of other material out this week! I'm going over 20 individual books in varying degrees of detail and enthusiasm. It's always a wild ride when you're reading comics, so Continue Reading to find something to get lost in this week! Ok, this is getting embarrassing. There's only so many weeks I can get away with having a mostly-Marvel pull list before it starts to look like I'm a massive Marvel stan (a term I hate and immediately regret using). Don't get me wrong, I obviously really like Marvel, but my Marvel-heavy pull lists are more of a comment on the current state of the comics industry than my personal taste. Go to any twitter page/message board/Reddit sub, you'll see a surprising amount of comic book fans reporting confusing and lazy editing, writing, and events at DC Comics in the past year or so. I'm sad to say it's a pattern I noticed as well, and the reason I only have a handful of DC books on my subscription list at all. And, of those, they're almost entirely Black Label books--the publishing house under DC where they put all their out-of-canon hero stories and non-cape comics. For these reasons, I've been working on adding more independent publisher content to by subscription list. There's a lot of new indie books starting in 2020, so now is the perfect tie to spread my comic-reading wings. And, if you've been keeping up, none of this is news. These are trends I've been writing about for months now, and it's only getting more obvious. Publishing giant disappointments aside, there's always amazing comics still coming out. INCLUDING some great DC books ;). Continue reading to see what I have this week! It's already February! This may be a pattern, but the past few months have FLOWN by. And they're likely only going to start moving faster, because there are a LOT of amazing new comics starting this winter/spring, and I'm not planning on missing them! I've started compiling my list of upcoming reads, and it's a lot. Which is great! I love reading comics and I love sharing the world of all things comics, so all this does is give me more material to talk about! Speaking of talking about comics, this week I'm sticking with my "looser" format of posting--instead of the long-form, title/solicitation/response I have been doing for a while. I find it to be more conversational, and it's likely more interesting to read! Without further ado, continue reading to see whats in store this week! |
