This is the one, the Ahsoka episode! Adam joins me for a (lit, tbh) long hour-plus discussion of the show so far, at the end of this episode! Let's do it.
Podcast notes for this episode: (U R HERE) Kicking it off with TAROT 00:05:46 and our Card of the Week, #17: the Star! After the history and symbolism, I cover the card's Interpretation/Meaning 14:55, and finally the always fun Pop Culture references 18:00 and summary. MANGA segment 25:19 includes the little bits of manga news, followed by catching up on what I've been reading in the world of manga lately. COMIC BOOKS 32:47 starting with October release news. Recent Reads/Events 39:07 including Kelly Thompson's The Cull #1, the finale of Dark Knights of Steel, plus Marvel Unleashed #1 and a ton more, all leading into catching up with the ending of Knight Terrors, which itself leads into the Batman/Catwoman Gotham War. On Marvel's side, the extensive Fall of X books have been read and summarized as well as I think is reasonable. TV/Movies/Anime segments 1:24:59 start with everything new and noteworthy, including new English anime dubs, shows I've caught up on or started fresh, and some recent movies and one-off's that I've also enjoyed. Really quickly, there's also relevant News/Announcements 1:32:39. Finally, (with Adam joining the discussion here) after some actually pretty solid discussion of the Harley Quinn show's finale of season 4 (and what we'd like to see in a season 5), we get to Ahsoka! The show, that is. Be warned, we saved recording this until we'd already cracked a few beers, so what you're hearing is raw, mostly unfiltered drunk nerds get excited about the Clone Wars and Rebels series' long-game outcome. Hail Filoni, tbh. It's so good to see....you get it. It's all in there, I hope the discussion isn't too wild. I'll be back with another episode uhhhh hopefully by the end of the month! Lots going on in life atm, so scheduling my recordings have been kinda difficult. But I shall return, and Adam too! There's at least, what, 2 more Ahsoka episodes to cover? And always, always, more comics, manga, and anime. The Fall 2023 anime season will be announced soon, too! Peace out, girl scouts. Nothing need to know, but life does get in the way at times and this was certainly one of those times. As always, and maybe in the spirit of the anime Shoujo Heroine, we will continue moving forward with time and continue to strive to do our best, whatever that may entail on a day-to-day basis.
One of the hard points recently was the news of the passing of celebrated geek, musician, actor and voice actor, Lance Reddick. The dust hasn't quite settled enough for the tribute I feel he is required, so I don't have it here on this episode. But he is due the respect of proper obituary on this podcast, so when we are ready, it will happen. In the meantime, if you have any stories of Lance, please feel free to share them wherever you can so I can add that to his tribute. Starting with Tarot 06:41, I remembered this week to give the note on Divinatory Tarot and the Like that I meant to go over last week, and the full article it came from can be found here: http://hearingshofar.blogspot.com/2010/03/aries-shofar-at-pesach.html Card of the Week for our tarot lessons continuation is #5: the Hierophant. I have the description, symbolism, meanings and interpretation, plus a bit of history and some fun pop culture references! Manga of the week 0:19:23 is, ironically, it turns out, Tokyo Demon Bride Story by TADAICHI NAKAMA! Ironic, because I also learned today that this is the last day of it's publication: the manga ends as of today, April 3rd. While it seems to have a fair amount of haters, I found it quite charming and entertaining. Tokyo Demon Bride story can be found on the Shonen Jump app. Manga News for the week 22:26 includes the MyAnimeList Ultimate List of Manga Recommendations (https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2023-03-31/myanimelist-releases-ultimate-list-of-manga-recommendations/.196585 ) as well as a number of other starts and finales. Comic Book News 25:50 is a touch heavy this week, starting with the frankly ludicrous twitter debate of Comics vs Manga, and going into the sad truth of our female creators in comics, and how their legacies are sabotaged by the publishers who hired them. The discussion came from the following tweet: https://twitter.com/ComicBookHerald/status/1636013058890903553?s=20 . We also gave some time and thought to the legacy of Carol Danvers, and how the cancellation of her series at issue 50 is NOT a good decision for anyone involved, even so much as to relate to the previous point about female Big Two creators. Plus I have some King/Sampere Wonder Woman thoughts, which I don't think anyone will have an answer for until her landmark 800th issue. I talk a bit about the kick-off's from 3/22 0:37:49 plus some of what was new this past week, 3/29. As always, this is only a tiny fraction of all comic releases each week, so be sure to contact your local comic purveyor for the full details on what you may be interested in! Comics are, as always, for everyone. We get into the TV/MOVIES segement 0:41:31 ith what's New and Noteworthy lately, including Yellowjackets season 2, Wellmania, Unstable (wow, bit of trend here, eh?), School Spirits, and more. We're back to having a PROPER News/Announcements segment this week, starting with the RUMORS: 48:13, then MCU: 51:59 including the leaving of Victoria Alonso and Ike Perlmutter, Secret Invasion info and theories, the necessary mentioning of changes that may come to Loki season 2's cast, Liv Tyler's Betty Ross, and the casting of Wonder Man's brother, Grim Reaper. Then DCU: 1:03:16 talking Batman 2's villain, a certain unfortunate project, and of course, the Blue Beetle trailer! Big ups and downs in the pop culture news this week, for sure. Anime News 1:06:58 has me talking Spring 2023 Lineup English Dubs (no dates! why no dates, Crunchyroll?) as well as new Anime and show announcements, including the Netflix Scott Pilgrim project, Konosuba, Re:Zero, Spy x Family, Girlfriend Girlfriend, and more! Finally, I get caught up with where we're at with the Mandalorian season 3, talking chapters 20 and 21: the Foundling and the Pirate, respectively. From space pterodactyls to HOLY SHIT I forgot to finish talking about episode 21...ummmmm oops. I'll see if I remembe to talk about the Armorer + Bo Katan next week! heh. oops. And that's it! happy to have you here. Please rate/like my episodes so they get seen by more listeners, and thank you as always for your support. Next week we'll talk card #6, the Lovers, plus a new Manga of the week, more shows and movies and Mando, more anime, and tons of fun, I hope. For Manga 00:16:57, the new Manga of the week is Kaiju Girl Caramelise by Spica Aoki! This sweet, still early-on series is heartwarming, wholesome, and only ever getting better. Manga News 0:23:53 features a numbers of announcements on new English releases coming through the year. Comic Books 0:31:06 features what was New This Week, as well as Comic Book News and June Release Announcements 0:37:09, including the full DC Pride 2023 lineup, new Tom King series', and a fair amount of indie love. I also had o stop and talk about Purgatori some more 0:50:15, the new focus of the Halloween 2023 podcast special, who I hope I can make you all love as much as I immediately did. TV and Movies 0:53:54 begins with what is New and Noteworthy over the past week, incuding History of the World part 2, Class of '07 (Amazing!), Ted Lasso s3, making fun of Gotham Knights, and more. Only one announcement this week, if you can call it that 0:58:03; followed by another discussion of American Born Chinese (coming to Disney+ March 23rd!), including famed artist James Jean's thoughtful statement on the show and the artistic poster he created for it. The Anime segment 1:04:22 is almost entirely anime news, which is a lot of premier dates for the most part. I'm generally a dub watcher, so I love to see new English dubs being made, among all the rest of the news. OF course, we end it all with Mando Ep. 3 1:08:34 titled Chapter 19- the Convert! and just who IS this convert? Because there's more than one option, and I think it's clear based on my take here what convert I'm more excited for, and why! This IS the way, nerds. I love it. No ragerts. I'll be back next week with episode 92, covering the Hierophant tarot card and history, a new Manga of the week, all kinds of geeky news, a ton of comics talk, and more Mandalorian coverage! Podcast notes for referenced links, more information, and those otherwise wanting to follow along: This week's Tarot Studies 0:05:36 includes our new card of the week, #3 of the Major Arcana, The Empress! While I don't have so much history on this card per-se, I have some interesting insights that, oddly enough, tie into some more psychology, if just a bit. Plus some interesting and feminine connection to last week's High Priestess card! Next week is #4, the Emperor! The Manga segment 0:19:59 begins with our new Manga of the Week: Daily Report About my Witch Senpai, by Maka Mochida! We take these two sweet little slice-of-life volumes as a cooling off period after going hard last two week with Boys Over Flowers and the Wallflower. Followed by a good but of Manga News 0:22:52, which is a bit I'm still working on perfecting! Should I just report the ones I'm familiar with, or is continuing to look for more new and interesting things a good way to expand all our manga/anime knowledge?? ( I feel like I just answered my own question) For Comic Books 0:30:03, we begin with what was NEW this week, arriving in shops March 8th! There's plentiful kick-off's to new series', both indie and "big-two." There are two bits of Comic Book News 0:37:30, one very positive, and one less so. Also, a short discussion of What Happened to Donny Cates? Please note I jest in good humor, please don't send me internet hate over a straight white man, lol. Then the past week's Recent Reads and Events 0:42:12 includes more Lazarus Planet after-shocks, including that awful (awfully cheese-ball) Batman v Robin ending, two Stephanie Phillips kick-offs, and a Stephanie Phillips finale (her Harley Quinn run), plus more! For whatever reason, I've been wanting to go back and finish Mark Millar and Stuart Immonen's Empress (2016; 7-issues), so I decided to make it a feature on this episode 0:54:35. Only when I was doing this write-up did I realize that it was perfect timing, alongside this week's tarot study of the Empress card. Ha! anyway. I give a little summary, but my full summary is on the linked podcast notes. Which brings us to the TV/Movies segment 01:00:34, starting as usual with what was New (to me, at least) and Noteworthy over the past week or so, plus some exciting announcements that includes the screen adaptation of The Good Asian, the 2022 Eisner Award Winner for best Limited Series! And for damn good reason. There's a bit of Anime news 1:06:05, then finally... Mandalorian season 3 episode 2, Chapter 18: The Mines of Mandalore. Folks, it's spoiler city here, and probably isn't a good segment for your kids to overhear, cause this bitch got EXCITED. If you thought I got too sweaty last week, it's in a whole new universe on this one, babyyyyyy! But, I mean, if you watched it, you get it, right? Right?! Come back next week for the 81st episode! The Emperor in Tarot, more MANDO, a new Manga of the Week, exciting new comic reads, and always so much more! Keep it sweaty, folks, It's better that way. Episode 90 still coming tomorrow, the 9th!
Starting off the week with Tarot Studies 0:04:14, and this week's Card of the Week, #2: the High Priestess. Interestingly, the history of the High Priestess is quite different than that of the Magician last week, in that there are a number of real world conspiracies tied into the card's origin. Plus the three character connection from the Marvel Tarot (2007--and in need of an update, tbh), as well as the High Priestess' character archetype from the Anime Tarot! As this is the first episode of March, I also have a new Tarot Deck of the Month 0:24:17, which for March is the Pagan Cats Tarot, aka Tarot of Pagan Cats! Delightful, artistic, and so creative! The Manga segment 0:26:50 has our very in-depth Manga of the Week: The Wallflower (aka Perfect Girl Evolution)! Also having run as a delightful and popular 25-episode anime, the Wallflower was one of my first manga I read as a teen, and like last week's Boys Over Flowers, will always hold a special place in my heart. Check out the connecting Podcast Notes to see how much I DIDN'T include in the podcast, but is still all there in my write-up! Endless information; I wasn't lying when I said I love this one! That leads into a decent list of New and Continuing Manga for this new month of March 0:40:50, which again, has a much more in-depth version on the written notes linked above. Once again, the Comic Books segment 0:44:09 starts with what's new and interesting in March, from a variety of publishers, as well as releases I'm just generally looking forward to. After that is the New Comics This Week list--which I feel like I have to casually remind you is only a small portion of all weekly comic releases! Check out your local comic shop or online retailer for a full list of what releases for comics each week. The Recent Comic Reads & Events 0:50:49 segment includes the wrap-up of DC Comics' Lazarus Planet event, which officially ended with Lazarus Planet Omega, but will have further impact down the road, and I'll be keeping up with those aftershocks, as well! Other reads I talk about include, honestly, a handful of things I was underwhelmed by, but I promise that will change with the next podcast episode's comics section, as there is always more to look forward to! The final segment is TV/MOVIES 01:00:45! Starting off with some New and Noteworthy releases and watches, including Outer Banks and Make My Day. We have an amount of very interesting "announcements lite," 01:01:52 such as Steven Yeun's Thunderbolts villain role, the new Pretty-Boy-Hellboy, Something is Killing the Children's going to Netflix, and more, plus some minor rumors. There were two somewhat noteworthy trailers 01:07:04 put out last week, including Peter Pan and Wendy, and the Haunted Mansion, both of which get a mention. Anime News and Updates 01:08:53 is mostly my current watch-list and things that I'm enjoying this season. The main event is the shows! Beginning with a little bit on the surprising (to me) Mayfair Withes Finale 01:09:30 before getting into the excitement of Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 1 01:11:35, titled Chapter 17: the Apostate. We get into easter eggs, references, the trilogy of trilogies (I'm talking about prequels, originals, and sequels), plus Book of Boba, and the Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows, because it's all involved here! We're getting peak Star Wars, and yes I know how that sounds! Reign it in, Anna. I just really love Star Wars. And this is getting sweatyyyyy. Aaaand then I Finally watched Quantumania 01:22:26, and I can't say I disagree with many of the naysayers. It was....not great. MCU Fatigue central, anyone? And BOY, Bill Murray does not sit well with me anymore, jeez. The whole thing was just a little.....it was a lot. Yeah. But not all bad! I had things I liked, to be fair, so that's all discussed. Come back later this week for episode 90! Including the 18th Chapter of the Mandalorian, a new Manga of the week and tarot card lesson, comics news, and more! PLUS: a special look at Mark Millar and Stuart Immonen's EMPRESS (2016)! All that and more! Keep it sweaty, folks. And just in time for the start of Autumn.
This episode's News begins with a few personal notes, before getting into the good news about Brendan Fraser in the Whale (0:11:21), then a few points of Star Wars (0:14:31), including the new Princess and the Scoundrel book and a sad note about Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron. DC News includes the Harley Quinn Show (0:18:40) and a DC Productions Update, plus more Henry Cavil Rumors (0:23:32), a bit on Doctor Who (0:27:54), and of course, the Weird Al trailer. Coverage of this year's D23 Expo (0:33:17) is broken down into sections for the Trailers, General News, then Lucasfilms News (0:41:34) and MCU News! Since the long break, we have comic book Picks covering the weeks of the 31st, the 7th, and the 14th (0:51:06), and comic book pulls for this week, that of the 21st, follow (1:05:58). Finally, while I have a number of shows to do catch-up coverage of, this episode features the missed She Hulk: Attorney At Law (1:15:32) episodes, #'s three, four, and five. don't miss the sixth this week, out on Thursday the 22nd! This is out of nine total episodes, so we're starting to see the finish line. That's all for this week, keep checking back for more show and comic updates in the comic week! The entirety of Star Wars Celebration begins coverage at 0:09:45, including! Obi-Wan Kenobi 12:24; The Mandalorian 14:29; the Bad Batch 18:14; Star Wars Visions 19:06; Ahsoka 19:45; Andor 21:40; Star Wars: Skeleton Crew 23:25; Star Wars: The Acolyte 25:41; Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi 27:15; LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation 28:21; Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures 28:43; Indiana Jones 5 29:12 and Willow; the games, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor 30:52, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, and Star Wars: Hunters; and finally the comics, Star Wars: The High Republic 31:56, Star Wars: The Blade, and Star Wars: Yoda. The remainder of the news is at 0:34:23 with my excitement about the new Horizon Zero Dawn Netflix Project, and brief comic news at 37:48 with the Harley Quinn series, and the 2022 X-Men Hellfire Gala Variants, which start publication this Wednesday. The comic book pulls are at 44:34, with my favorites being Captain Marvel and Strange! At last, OBI-WAN KENOBI episodes 1 and 2 begin discussion at 0:49:05, including sections on General thoughts, that killer (sorry for the pun) opening, Ben's life 10 years down the line, the Inquisitors (all 4 of them!), the kids (iykyk, and if you're online, yk), the planet Daiyu, the Big Reveal, and a few notes on my favorite Star Wars character, Padme Amidala. Then, we still go over Young Justice season 4 episode 24 at 1:17:37, which is NOT the season finale, titled Zenith and Abyss. The Finale will come with episode 26 in a little over a week, now! We're also talking Star Trek: Strange New Worlds at 1:24:30. It's based in episode 4, but I go over all the main characters as they've been developed so far, some hit moments already, and a few fun facts. Finally, we end with DC comics August 2022 solicitations at 1:32:30, talking everything relevant to expect from the publisher that month, I've broken it up into a couple sections to make navigation easier: Anna's Highlights, New This Month 1:38:16, Batman Misc 1:44:03, Dark Crisis: 1:46:48, and General Continuing at 1:48:06. On the Next Episode: comic book Picks/Pulls, Obi-Wan Kenobi ep. 3, Ms Marvel Prep! Plus ST Strange New Worlds, Young Justice 25, the News, and more! Plus, keep an eye out for this month's Yancy Street Special, JUSTICE FOR MADELYNE PRYOR! Should be posted on May 31st. Keep it sweaty! This is a PACKED episode after I took a bit of rest last week, so be sure to check it all out!
The News is a lot this week, so it comes in a series of categories: Women's History Month Headlines at 0:09:32, followed by TV and Movie Updates at 0:13:07 (including the animated Harley Quinn's Kite Man spin-off show, Sydney Sweeney's casting speculation for Madame Web, thoughts on the first look at She-Hulk herself, a Dragon Ball movie update, a look at the ZSJL Green lantern, and an Aadams Family Netflix Update!), then Rumors and Theories at 0:30:52 (featuring the apparent Daredevil "reboot," Kraven movie theories, an unfortunate Doctor Who rumor, and guesses on if Mace Windu will be returning or not). Then we get into trailers at 0:45:02, starting with Ms Marvel (and my admittedly stellar theory), and ending with Obi Wan Kenobi. Finally, the news finishes with comic book updates at 1:08:50, which includes the DC and Marvel Pride covers list, and the 2022 Hellfire Gala covers. After the news, I go VERY briefly though a few comic Picks at 1:15:11, and I run through the Pulls for the coming week at 1:17:18. Finally, this episode features the Marvel and DC comic solicitations for June 2022 at 1:21:30 and 1:31:24, respectively. Some of the highlights from Marvel include Pride Month covers, Avengers, X-Men, and Eternals begins, Daredevil restarting, an evil Spider-Man What-If series, the Hellfire Gala 2022, and mini-series' for Genis-Vell, Jane Foster, Ben Grimm, Hank Pym Ant-Man, and Black Cat! DC's headlines include a New Poison Ivy series, Rosenberg's last issue of Batman, the beginning of Dark Crisis and Queen Nubia's Reign, the annual DC Pride issues and specials, and the marriage at the end of Batman/Catwoman! That's it for this week, next week will feature a longer discussion on the future of Poison Ivy, a segment to catch up on recent comics, and more news! There's always more to get sweaty about. See you next time! The News and Rumors: is Gunn directing Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy's onscreen team-up? Multiverse of Madness Cameo Rumor Roundup! Clea/Theron Casting Rumors; and a bit of my own speculation on who "She-Hulk's Best Friend" is, as being played by Ginger Gonzaga in the upcoming Disney+ show!
Comic Book Pick list at 0:22:49, including a brief history of the Bloodstone clan, two excellent indie premieres and two mediocre ones, an uncanny number of things written by Chip Zdarsky, the final issue of Marauders, and more! Comic Book Pulls for this week at 0:36:21, where I'm mostly excited about the premier of She-Hulk's new series! Which, by the way, I have a MASSIVE Intro to Jen Walters/She-Hulk Yancy Street Special episode coming up this weekend! A discussion of Book of Boba Fett episode 3, "the Streets of Mos Espa," goes along with an explanation of the Nightsisters of Dathomir, in Legends as well as Canon! Finally, after Monday's blessed Moon Knight trailer premier, the episode wraps up with a some brief speculation on what direction the show will be taking, based off of comic knowledge. If you want a more in-depth explanation of Moon Knight (and Marc Spector), check out the Disney+ Day segment on this podcast, episode 41A! This week's big catch-up episode starts with news as usual (0:07:17), but most of this news is rumors and speculation, including talk of the Batgirl movie, the Marvels, Wakanda Forever, and of course, Multiverse of Madness.
Covering two week's of comics, some of the stars of my pick list discussion include Harley Quinn #10, Death of Doctor Strange #4, Dark Knights of Steel #3, Dirtbag Rapture #4, and more! The first week of comics is at 0:27:02, the second starts at 0:40:48, and this week's pull list, including so many #1's!, is at 0:51:43. Finally, the main event is my Book of Boba Fett episode 1 and 2 discussions. The first was an amazing start, but I liked the second even more. At the end, I talk a fair amount about the metaphor of the Tusken Raiders and what their handling between Mando and Book of Boba very relevantly displays--all tied up with Morrison's Maori heritage. The next podcast episode will be the Best of Comics 2021 podcast special, coming this week! It's done, it's ready to record, let's see if I get it out on time! sad laugh. But in all seriousness, I'll have another Monday episode up on Monday the 17th, covering more comics, more rumors, and more Book of Boba! It's a big'un!
We kick off by discussing Creator rights and payment when a project is picked up for film or TV from the "Big 2" before getting into... The News @ 0:13:17, starting off with an overview of what premiering media (TV and Movies) we'll be discussing this month on the podcast, totaling seven different projects across the MCU, DCEU, Star Wars, and other geeky pop-culture topics; before going into.... Ms Marvel @ 0:17:03 discussing drama and curiosity over an initial promo poster and a leaked behind-the-scenes pic; Spiderman: No Way Home @ 0:22:32, we have not only official images, but a plethora of leaked behind-the-scenes pics, and a rumor about Ned Leeds--where I cover his comic history, too; Batgirl @ 0:33:13, with the news Brendan Fraser has reportedly been cast as Firefly. Discussion includes character comic history and various theories; Ant-Man and the Wasp @ 0:38:04 talking the somewhat hilarious Quantumania title leak, what it could indicate, and news and theories on a surprise guest star/cameo; Book of Boba Fett @ 0:41:12, doing a total trailer breakdown, celebrating the lead actors, and being generally excited; Val-Zod HBOMax @ 0:57:34 covering the news of the new writers on this Michael B. Jordan project, as well as the comic history of the character himself; Then a reminder @ 1:03:16 of the Morbius Trailer coming out tomorrow (and why I'm...hesitant...), which I'll cover on the next episode alongside the comic history of Morbius, and what extremely theoretical connections Leto's version could have with the MCU/D+ shows. Then we get into Last Week In Comics @ 1:5:15 for comics out Oct. 27th, mostly talking about Hickman's Inferno #2; This week's New Comic Pull List @ 1:18:17, with a bunch of #1's and a spoiler recap of Batman: Reptilian's wild events; and finally, Young Justice season 4 @ 1:29:20, recapping episodes 1-4, which encompasses the first arc of this season. The next episodes surround Artemis and Cheshire! I'll be back for a "B" episode this Friday, the fifth of November, talking the weekly comics pick list, Doom Patrol on HBO Max, the Morbius trailer breakdown, and anything relevant in the news! Keep warm, happy November! Website/Blog: www.sensationalshegeek.weebly.com Apple Podcasts Podbean Spotify Instagram: @annawiththecomics Twitter: @savageshegeek YouTube: Sensational She-Geek Donation and All Other Links Bit of a shorter episode today as I'm making time for a special edition podcast!
Pull list @ 0:09:39 Covering a number of #1's as well as some final issues! Star Wars Visions @ 0:28:38 Talking George Lucas' inspiration from Akira Kurosawa's films and other Japanese inspirations for his Star Wars universe. Also some brief discussion of the first few episodes, because this stuff is crazy good and you should go watch it! Doom Patrol S.3 part 1 @ 0:39:05 The first 3 episodes are up on HBO Max, and I had a blast watching them and trying to catch all the Easter eggs! I'm sure I didn't catch it all, but I discuss everything here. I'll be back (aside from the special edition Inferno prep podcast!) this Friday, October 1st, for 35B! I'll be talking comic picks, along with the new episodes of What If...? and Titans! Have a stellar sweaty week! Ep.22A: The Bad Batch's Omega meets Rex! +Comic Book Pulls: Mega-Sized Pull List This Week!6/14/2021
It's a new week, and a new Monday "A" episode! Today's podcast starts off with my discussion of the Bad Batch episode seven, which covered a fair amount of ground, including the introduction of Rex to Omega! Gotta love it when worlds collide, even if they're just the same universe.
My weekly comic book pull list is a beast this week! It includes popular gems such as Demon Days: Mariko #1, Planet-Size X-Men #1, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1, and more for the Hellfire Gala, but also indie treasures like the final issue of Maria Llovet's Luna, Ram V and Filipe Andrade's the Many Deaths of Laila Star #3, the ridiculously pleasing Sonjaversal #5, and so much more! Specifically, I talk about a whopping 21 different comics that are releasing this week! Finally, to end on a happ(iest place on earth)y note, I talk a little about Avengers Campus at Disney's California Adventure! I had previously gone through announced expectations, but now that the park is open to visitors, I have a little more information on hos things are, what the expect, and what you'll see and eat! I haven't been myself, but I's so love to! I'll be back this Friday, June 18th for episode 22B, which will cover the best things out of this new comic book week, this Wednesday's second episode of Loki, and whatever news and theories break in nerd culture between now and then! Until then, stay cool, but get sweaty :) website: www.sensationalshegeek.weebly.com ApplePodcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sensational-she-geek-live-from-yancy-street/id1550410718 PodBean: sensationalshegeek.podbean.com Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/45qGcYnP147aZBVIHC09lI Instagram: @annawiththecomics twitter: @savageshegeek
It's Monday again! This week's "A" starts regularly with the comic book pull list, spotlighting DC Pride #1, The good Asian #2, Children of the Atom #4, and Far Sector #12 (the final issue!), plus the rest of the regular pull list!
After the comics chat is my discussion of the Bad Batch episode six, as well as the first few episodes of Sweet Tooth on Netflix. I'm not at all familiar with the source material of that one, so my take might be a little...off? Still, it was fun to talk about, and Bad Batch is always a gem! For news, we have discussions of Spider-Woman's casting for the Into the Spider-Verse sequel, and there's a lot to theorize about it! Finally, there is a prelude to Wednesday's Loki premier on Disney+, and brand-new rumors of certain Atlanteans appearing in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The source is sketchy, but it's still fun to deliberate! I'll be back this Friday, June 12th for episode 21B, which will cover my new comic book day picks, Loki's premier, and whatever news or speculation breaks between now and then! Until then, stay sweaty! Happy...er, Sunday?! SO sorry I got behind on this week's "B" podcast, but life got in the way! It's here, now, with an extra half-hour more run-time than usual! Whoops?
This episode starts with the usual Comic Book Pick List, featuring things that I loved or thought were noteworthy out of this week's new comic book releases. The pick list discussion includes a solid chunk of time dedicated to this week's X-Men #20 before diving into Beta Ray Bill #3, Made in Korea #1, Monstress #34, and Strange Adventures #10, among others! With great reads comes great discussions! Then it's on to the week's media consumption, including catching up on the Bad Batch and Superman and Lois, my basic thought son Hulu's Modok, and the finale episodes of Black Lightning! For news, casting announcements for Secret Invasion, Sony's Kraven, and HBO's Green Lanterns are joined by news of an Okoye origin show coming to Disney+! Finally, the episode wraps up with some fun (?) MCU-related rumors, including one about December's Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the other about the newly announced Captain America 4--an both involve the rumored villains! I'll be back this coming TUESDAY, June 1st, with an episode going over the week's comic book pull list, as well as whatever more new and speculation gets out until then! In the meantime, thank you for listening, and for your patience with this episode's lateness. Wherever you're from, have a delightful, nerd-sweat-filled weekend!
Hello on this fine Monday! I did today's "A" episode a little different, starting with news and speculation! This section includes info on the fifth Indiana Jones movie, upcoming film and TV releases, and news of AT&T beefing up to cage-fight Disney!
Then there is the comic book pull list, featuring a plethora of new and ongoing series'! The episode wraps up with a brief note on Castlevania season 4, and discussion of the Bad Batch episode 3, which was a great one! I'll be back Friday, May 21st for episode 18B, which will feature the comic book Pick List, discussion of Black Lightning episodes, and whatever news and updates may happen between now and then! Have a fantastic week, everyone, and be authentically sweaty!
Happy Monday, folks! This week's "A" episode starts off with Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 2 discussion, including Isiah Bradley, the Flag Smashers, John Walker, and Zemo!
As I mentioned in the last episode, I owe it to myself/the universe to watch Black Lightning, especially since I'm watching Superman and Lois. I'm almost done with season 1, so I give some background on the comic versions of the characters and discuss the show as a whole so far. And so far, it's just as good as Superman and Lois, at least! After reacting to the Suicide Squad trailer from James Gunn last Friday, today I go through each team member for a quick who's-who of cast and characters, then this week's comic book Pull List is joined by Spotlights on Representation of characters of color, LQBTQ+ themes, and women in comics, before heading back into news! Some MCU concept art leaked last week, so I felt it was worth mentioning, as well as the recent MODOK show casting news and today's Obi-Wan Kenobi cast announcement! Finally, Comic Con San Diego is making some questionable decisions for fall 2021, but at least the DCEU and MCU lineups for 2022 look unbelievable! No, really. I do expect a few films to get pushed into 2023. Still, it does remain an amazing time to be a nerd. I'll be back this Friday, April 2nd, to discuss the best and most noteworthy moments of this week's comic books, as well as whatever industry news might break between now and then! In the meantime, be good to your fellow man, and stay sweaty! He's here! This figure is a re-release of the 2013 version. The main differences seem to be slightly less accessories on this new guy, but I'm willing to take that loss in return for an overall better looking figure. Unfortunately I do not have a 2013 Maul to compare him to, but I have heard he's a massive improvement, so it works for me! I got this one from Walmart, but you can find him pretty much anywhere that sells Hasbro toys--Target, Barnes and Noble, local comic shops, etc. Click through to see my full video review, as well as my written review and afterthoughts!
