Weekly Comics Pull List,+ Marvel & DC December Comic solicits!9/27/2021 Pull List @ 0:16:40
Marvel Comics December @ 0:42:22 DC Comics December @ 1:04:00 Good Monday, and Happy Autumn! This week's "A" episode kicks off with one big bit of news, focusing on the trailer for Hit-Monkey, coming to Hulu in November! I go through the comics facts about all the relevant players in this discussion. After the regular weekly comic book pull list, I'm able to discuss both Marvel and DC comics announced for December release! While I'm not going through every solicitation of the month, I've picked out a few from either publisher that seemed interesting or worth mentioning. While the Marvel discussion is longer, there's more variety in what I'm excited for at DC! I'll be back this coming Friday, September 24th with another episode focusing on the the week's comic book Picks, the Wednesday episode 7 of What If...? on Disney+, and the Thursday episode of Titans on HBO Max! Have a peaceful equinox, find balance in your life as the days and nights become equal in length, and find time to get sweaty about your hobbies. Ep.32A: Comics Pull List, Marvel and DC Comics in November, Black Canary on HBO Max, and more!9/27/2021 Good Monday! It's been a quiet weekend so I changed things up a touch with the podcast format, starting off with the news and rumors segment! The news this week brings us the official announcement of a Black Canary movie on HBO Max starring Journee Smollet, the casting of Poison Ivy for Batwoman, and rumors of Multiverse of Madness and the Flash movie!
Then it's off to the comic pull list, where I am happy to be able to spotlight a off number of comics with excellent character and/or creator representation! That list includes two Mirka Andolfo projects, Joelle Jones' Wonder Girl, Peach Momoko's Demon Days reimagining of the Marvel Universe, and more! It's a wonderful week for positive representation. Finally, the last thing I talk about on this episode are the November Marvel and DC comics solicitations. Marvel's list includes a number of one-shots and mini series', while DC's is a whole lot of bat-family goodness! There's so much to look forward to at the end of the year, and always more being added on! I'll be back this Friday, September 3rd for the weekly B episode, covering the comic book Pick list, What If...? Episode 4, Titans episode 6, and anything else relevant for discussion! Have a chill week, stay positive, and sweat it out about comics! Hiya, folks! This Monday brings us a HUGE comic book pull list for the week, including a total of 21 comics discussed! Highlights include the Mighty Valkyries, Batman Reptilian, Sonjaversal, Strange Adventures, and the return of Amazing Fantasy! These comics will come out Wednesday the 28th, or Tuesday the 27th for DC comics.
After a short blurb on the 13th episode of the Bad Batch, I'm covering Marvel's October solicitations! We did DC last week, so it's only fair. There are a ton of exciting things coming out in October, and I've picked out a bunch of ones I'm looking forward to! I had to stop the normal podcast, at this point, to talk about something important I forgot to mention last Friday: Marauders #22, which undid a long-ago wrong to a strong female character who always deserved better. Not only did they undo the wrong, they made it so she never went through the worsts of it in the first place. Now that's a retcon I can completely get on board with, and I talk about the meaningful details here. After a little MCU and Pokemon project news, the podcast today wraps up with a list of Eisner Award winners! The awards were granted over the weekend when Comic Con San Diego would normally be happening, and I'm thrilled to recognize a number of the titles and creators. I'll be back this coming Friday, July 30th for our last July episode, covering the new comics Pick list, breaking news and speculation, and whatever else becomes relevant between now and then! Till then, have an excellent week, and stay sweaty. A Note on Clea of the Faltines.3/5/2021 I'd like to take a moment to address a blog I once found running a very popular series called "Clea Loves Sex."
For starters: Yes. She does. She isn't from Earth, although it seems the people of the Dark Dimension are...human? She discovers she is non-human with her mother's heritage, at least. Anyway, she is from the Dark Dimension. People there have magic, it would seem, and their world, ways, technologies, and cultures are wildly different, so it really makes sense that she might take some pride in this particular aspect that crosses over both cultures. It's something she didn't have to learn, adapt to, or discover as new when she arrived on Earth. So while she might dislike cars and phones and whatnot due to unfamiliarity, sex is familiar. Comfortable, on multiple levels. And, it gives Clea an opportunity to express her love to Stephen, something that she is constantly striving to prove and be worthy of. So yes. Clea does love sex. But writing an exploitative series on it, ultimately marking her as a "nympho" willing to sleep with any man who shows feelings for her, is not only inaccurate but also disrespectful to a character who has fought to be taken seriously for literal decades. Clea loves sex. But she also loves her friends, who she will go to extreme length for to protect and assist. She loves her father, her home, and her people, regardless of the often unfair and angry treatment towards her, their own Princess, through the ages. She loves to dress up for special occasions, not because she understands Earth fashion, but because she likes to please her loved ones with the effort she puts in for them. She loves animals, and cares for all living things. This love and care is particularly strong when it comes to other members of her gender, who she will fight for, tooth and nail, regardless of who it is that comes calling for her aid. And, I'm sure, Clea still loves Stephen Strange. The romantic part of that love has waxed and waned with her patience and sense of self-worth through the years, but the roots will never die; you don't just walk away from someone you intertwined your soul with for decades (another factor that was easily arguably an aphrodisiac in their relationship). While I don't think the writer of the blog's series was meaning to "slut-shame" Clea, I would definitely say he misinterpreted her character, or at least diminished it greatly for his own sexualization and kink preferences. To be clear, Clea of the Faltines is worth far more than any one man's tragically narrow fantasy of her. X of Swords Event Information9/11/2020 Since X of Swords is an event covering ALL the X-Men titles, all of which I read, I figured I would add this handy-dandy release schedule cheat-sheet to my blog for reference!

I refuse to hide in shame when I admit that three of my top-five picks this week are technically Dawn of X books. What can I say? Johnathon Hickman knows how to put together a universe.
X-Force, Marauders, and Empyre: X-Men are mt three mutant-based picks, leaving the other slots to this week's Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel. It also doesn't escape me how four fifths of this list are Marvel properties, but that is also easy to explain. Marvel's theory of "the more, the merrier" that they've had in recent years has excellent payoff, as far as I can see. There's something for everyone, no doubt about that. But let's not get too caught up in which publisher may or may not be better than others. When it comes down to it, Marvel and DC are both massive conglomerates that care only about their bottom dollar and give very little effort in terms of creator benefits. Dark sides of the industry aside, this was a pretty good week for comics! I'll admit that many of the other issues faltered for me, and many felt unimportant or like filler. These five, however, were the obvious choices that stood out for me in story, art, and overall quality, Continue Reading to find out more about my top picks from the week! WARNING: SPOILERS!

In my opinion, Empyre: X-Men has been far and beyond better than the main Empyre event, or any of the other tie-ins. This might be because the series is co-written by ALL of the Dawn of X writers at Marvel, who in turn were picked by Head of X Johnathon Hickman to help build his new world for the mutants. Since the series is still coming out, here are the release dates of each issue: #1 July 22nd, Jonathan Hickman and Tini Howard, art by Matteo Buffagni #2 August 5th, Gerry Duggan, Ben Percy, and Leah Williams, art by Lucas Werneck #3 August 12th, Ed Brisson, Vita Ayala, and Zeb Wells, art by Andrea Broccardo #4 August 19th, Jonathan Hickman, art by Jorge Molina And just for fun, here's a breakdown for the writers on this series, and what they normally write for Dawn of X: Johnathon Hickman: X-Men, New Mutants Tini Howard: Excalibur Gerry Duggan: Cable, Marauders Benjamin Percy: Wolverine, X-Force Leah Williams: X-Factor Ed Brisson: New Mutants Vita Ayala: Marauders Zeb Wells: Hellions Continue Reading for the full reviews on each of the four parts! SPOILERS AHEAD!
It's another banger of a comics week, with books of all kinds! At Marvel, the EMPYRE event wages on, leaving both excellence and stupidity in it's wake; plus X-books, some spiders, and a few unjustly digital-first released books finally getting their print release. DC has two doomed books, Mariko Tamaki's second issue of WONDER WOMAN, and more METAL! The indie stack is fairly well represented, with a new #1, Matt Fraction and the Dodsons' ADVENTUREMAN, and more Image books from Christopher Priest!
You may note I didn't do a "pick list" for last week. Usually I try to do them on Thursday, after binging the weekly comics by that afternoon. This week, however, I went on a road-trip Thursday instead! We went to the Bay Area for toy and comic book hunting, and I am pleased to report we found some INCREDIBLE collection pieces! I'll be writing somewhat about those eventually, but for now, onto the coming week's pulls! Continue Reading to see all the comics goodies I have picked out this week!
Looking at my pull list of 17 comics this week, I have to wonder. Is this sustainable?
Ideally I'd say of course a pull list like this is manageable, but the entire world is running very different from the world we had a year ago today, so I can't make any promises. What I can say is the series' I eventually DO drop from my pull list will be because of their quality first and foremost. I have seventeen comics on my pull list this week, and another beginning of a series I'm debating picking up or not. What's great about getting a bigger pull list every week is that the variety of comics you end up reading is so much more broad and satisfying. This week I have comics of ALL KINDS on my pull list, and I'm pumped to talk about every single one of them. I'm also excited about this week's Representation Spotlights, as we have some truly wonderful examples of representation in the comics industry. I've picked out Far Sector to speak on people of color as comics creators as well as in comics themselves; Horizon Zero Dawn for it's female creative team and female-driven plot; and I'm even doing a small commentary on male bisexuality in our masculinity obsessed society, with Sex Criminals and Deadpool (hell yeah Deadpool is queer!) as comic book examples. Continue Reading to dive into the wild wild world of comics in my pull list this week!
Folks, this has week has been a bit of a bummer--even aside from things that hit the national news.
In the comics world, DC announced the cancellation of 3 formerly ongoing series': Batgirl, Batman & the Outsiders, and Justice League: Odyssey. You may note right away that none of these were included in my last pull lists, and you'd be correct. I'm about 3 issues behind on JLO, and to be honest, only recently learned author Cecil Castellucci (of one of my all-time favorite mini-series, Female Furies) was writing Batgirl. But I only just started B&tO in volume form with the hopes to catch up, and love how Brian Edward Hill used a Batman series to promote some often forgotten but ultimately very meaningful characters. While weak excuses were offered as to the cancellation reasons, I (and more than a few comics blog sites) find them all to be just that: excuses. Additionally, Marvel announced the abrupt cancellation of one of my top-5 current ongoing books, Strikeforce. I wrote just last week that Strikeforce is one of the best books at Marvel, and after reading last week's Empyre and Avengers, I can easily say it's the best team they have. The excuse offered by Marvel was basically some fudged timing, which has been worked around in the past for other books. In the light of these cancellations, I will be adding the last of these 3 series' to my pull lists, regardless if I catch up in time. They each represented a marginalized sector of the comics industry, if not multiple, and their cancellations feel like major leaps backwards in comics progression. What #ComicsPledge? Anyway, there are still comics to read, so Continue Reading to see what IS coming out this week! It's a short week for comics! Short is relative, I suppose, and for what my lists have been recently, this is definitely short. It's also very Marvel heavy--of the seven books I'm reading this week, four are Marvel, one is DC, one Dynamite, and one Image. Not the variety I'd normally like to have in my reading material, but when the list is so small, the variety will be narrow as well. That isn't to say there's nothing good coming out this week at all! This week marks the first issue of Marvel's third Gamerverse book for Spider-Man, Black Cat Strikes. I'm a big fan of Black Cat, so this series will hopefully fill a long-empty hole where my female Marvel anti-heroes should live. Additionally, this week has the next issue of Undiscovered Country, which has caused quite a stir even on just it's third issue, and two other favorites from my pull list: Revenge of the Cosmic Ghost Rider and Vampirella/Red Sonja (check out the Babs Tarr variant to the left!). It's a smaller, but definitely fun week in comics! Continue Reading to see what's good this week! PS--Extra content at the very end, don't miss out! PPS-- the 19th is my birthday! I don't expect you to do anything with this information. NEW Comic Books for JANUARY 1ST, 2020!12/29/2019 Happy New Year! I've been AWOL for a week or two, as last week didn't have much by way of comics, and I was still pretty swamped with work and hobbies through the holidays. Plus, what an INSANE week we had just before Christmas, with average pull lists of dedicated readers reaching over twenty books that Wednesday. Thea year is starting off a little easier on our wallets than that, but that's not to say the books being released are any less interesting. In fact, the year starts off strong this week with three new series' that I'll be reading, among the other pulls. Last year, one of my goals was the broaden my comic book reading list--add variety. I feel like this year I've done a great job of that, and because of it, I've been reading some really excellent books. This year, I'll grow off that sentiment, and say my comic book reading goal is to not waste my time (and money) on series' that aren't what I wished for. In short, I'll be continuing to read just as much and more, but I'll get a little picky. If I'm not feeling a series, that's fine, there are plenty more to replace it with. Adding on to that as well, I already have a few creator-owned titles on my list for their debut in March, so I expect my comic pull list t be very rounded out by the end of 2020. With all that out of the way, continue reading to find out what's good for the first week of comics in 2020! New Comic Book Pulls DECEMBER 4th, 201911/30/2019 If there's anything that's true about my life today, it's that I'm thoroughly enjoying my weekly comics. It feels like around every corner, there's another excellent new series sitting there, waiting to be explored. These past few weeks have been BUSTING at the seams with new comics, so this week's nine is a nice quieter week. Three more X-Books, as it looks like Hickman has his team on 2-week intervals, Tom King's second-to-last every issue of Batman, and the well-regarded creative team of Thor is back with what promises to be a legendary one-shot with some of the best characters. It's officially December now, which means the countdown to 2020 is fully on! What should I do for the end of the year, a favorites summary? Top-5 comics of the year? Top-10? In any case, Continue Reading for this week's pulls! NEW Comic Book Pulls for November 25th, 201911/25/2019 I can't believe November is almost over! The past few months have been flying by, marked only by the massive influx of weekly comics. Last week was a doozy. I still haven't finished everything the week gave us, even as I write the update for the following week! What's truly remarkable about that is everything I have read from this past mega-week of comics was all brilliant. I didn't find myself lacking in quality material among the incredible stack of books last week gave us. This week has a lesser eleven issues I'll be reading, and even then, only that many because I'm throwing a few extras in. There are key issues of things coming out that I want to catch, and you won't want to miss them either! Continue reading to find out what's good this week in comics!
For the first time in months, I can almost count my comic pulls for the week on one hand. Almost. It's only 6 this week, half of last week's number, which has been about average these last few months. As I've mentioned a few times before, this year I challenged myself to add more comic books, and specifically more variety, to my reading list. Because of this, my weekly pull list has at least doubled in size on average, giving me plenty of reading material and plenty to talk about. Unfortunately like last week, no indie comics on my list, just Marvel and DC. This time of year publishers are doing a lot of Annuals, Specials, and One-Shots, which is why this week is so much smaller for me. That being said, the content of the six issues this week are just as good as ever, with an annual, two final issues, a first issue, and two second-to-lasts. Continue Reading to see all about my sweaty content for the week! At this point, you should get the picture: it's always a good week for comics. Since earlier this year, I've been challenging myself to round out my personal pull list to include more variety, as well as just more in general. Compared to a year ago, my pull list has doubled in size on a weekly basis, so I'm reading a lot more as well as recommending a lot more. The more knowledge about comics I have, the more I can talk about it to you people! It's great. As I always say, it's a good time to be a nerd. There's all kinds of amazing comics coming out week after week, so I know you're missing out if you aren't hitting up your Local Comic Shop! Talk to your own local shops about getting in issues you're interested in, and what recommendations they might have based on your interests. If I can read twelve issues a week with a full-time job, you can read a few, too! In the meantime, I'll be continuing my weekly run-downs of comics I read and recommend, as well as other reviews, un-boxings, discussions, and recipes mixed in. Continue Reading to see what I've got this week!
For what feels like the first time in a while, I have a nice, rounded feeling pull list this week. Its 4-and-3 Marvel and DC, plus a chic indie pick. A new series for each of the big two, as well. And that's not even mentioning the final issue of Johnathon Hickman's Powers of X series, which went alongside House of X that finished off beautifully last week. First and last issues makes for an exciting week in comics! Once again, I'll have additional suggestions at the bottom. For now, continue reading for the full weekly report! Congratulations, reader, you made it through last week! I ended up with about 10 pulls, so this week will be a little lighter. I have a much more manageable six issues to read this week, with a few more recommendations at the bottom again if you can't find anything to read. My laptop is being worked on at the computer repair shop as we speak, so while I am still mildly struggling with everything on mobile, I will do my best to keep up with editing and formatting. Discovered at Game Stop for the first time just a few days ago, it seems this figure has been released nation wide! Of the two local stores I checked today, I found two of these Frank Castles. I also saw 3 of the new Stealth Suit Invincible Iron Man figures, and two Giant Man figures. The Giant Man is a re-release of an MCU build-a-figure from a few years back. He's $35, which I see as a little steep for a figure that doesn't come with anything, so I opted out. As for stealth suit Iron Man, he comes with some great parts but Punisher won the day.
